Digital Security Specialist- Marginalized Communities

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews seeks three Digital Security Specialists experienced in working with journalists from marginalized communities (such as women journalists, LGBTI journalists or journalists from ethnic minority populations) in the Central and Southeastern European region (Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia). The Specialists will join our project to work directly with journalists from marginalized communities to better understand their specific digital security needs, conduct virtual workshops on how to engage with marginalized communities, and develop specific, actionable guidance on digital security for marginalized journalists.

LOGISTICS

This is a remote-based, part-time, short-term consultancy spanning 18-22 days over the span of 4 months.

All remote candidates will be considered. However, you must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews. Additionally, there are locations in which Internews is not able to support fully remote work. Preference will be given to candidates based or working in target countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia).

SCOPE OF WORK

Developing scenario-based trainings:

• Review current training materials offered by Internews’ Journalist Security Fellowship program;
• Host discussions with journalists who are members of marginalized communities to better understand their security needs;
• Design, plan, and conduct a workshop specifically to gauge the security needs of journalists from marginalized groups;
• Co-develop (with Internews staff and fellowship participants) specific digital security guidance and training materials for journalists who are members of marginalized communities;
• In all activities, demonstrate understanding of and commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

• Experience in working directly with members of marginalized communities in Central and Southeastern Europe, particularly journalists;
• Thematic expertise in digital safety and journalist security;
• Experience with threat modeling;
• Experience selecting/installing digital security-related software and equipment for individuals or organizations;
• Experience developing curricula, guides, or interactive digital platforms;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Demonstrated experience with training and capacity-building;
• Professional-level fluency in English;
• Optimism, a sense of humor, and excitement at supporting and elevating voices of people across the globe.

Preferred

• Strong understanding of adult learning approaches;
• Bachelor’s, master’s degree, or equivalent experience in education, instructional design, or curriculum development.
