The Digital Communications and Social Media Officer reports to the Senior Communications
Manager.
Responsibilities
– Collaborates and works closely with the European Union (EU) Representative Office in East
Jerusalem, the UNRWA Partnerships Division, field staff and local partners on researching,
developing and implementing the annual EU visibility plan; closely liaises with EU visibility
focal points and Public Information Officers (PIOs) in the field offices.
– Liaises with and supports the EU and UNRWA staff with regards to signing ceremonies,
press conferences, field visits, and additional EU-related events; conducts necessary research
on, coordinates and implements events.
– Oversees budgeting and expenditures of all EU visibility activities; is responsible for
devising the annual financial budget in coordination with EU focal points and the Department
of Finance; in coordination with the Finance Department, supervises the tracking of the
approved customized EU visibility plan expenditures.
– Is responsible for Donor Communiqué and other donor related communications tasks as
requested by the External Relations and Communications Department (ERCD); supports
UNRWA’s Communications Division on Agency-wide campaigns, including close
coordination with the Partnerships Division, field public information offices and programme
focal points.
– Performs regular monitoring and evaluation of activities related to the EU-UNRWA
communications strategy and ongoing campaigns; ensures the collection of periodic reports
from the fields; prepares and submits bi-annual and final monitoring and evaluation reports on
EU visibility activities, as required.
– Writes and edits captivating human interest stories, vibrant photo essays and other written
and visual materials for the EU and the Agency’s external communications; in coordination
with the Editor and Publications Officer, supports UNRWA’s social-media presence including
through the collection of content, social media engagement plans and populating the UNRWA
social media platforms with material that showcases the work of UNRWA and the Palestine
Refugees situation; assists with creating and capturing original EU-UNRWA multimedia
(photo, video, and graphic design) materials for dissemination across websites and social
media channels.
– Conducts regular media and social media assessment reports to measure impact of EUUNRWA
digital communications efforts.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational
institution in in communications, marketing, business administration, social sciences,
international relations, or a related discipline.
Job Specific Qualifications
Work Experience
At least five years of relevant experience in communications, social media and digital
campaign management is required.
Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, a
candidate for an international post must have a minimum of 2 continuous years of relevant
international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate
is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number, is required.
At least four years of experience in developing engaging campaigns centered on donor
engagement and acquisition and managing marketing channels, including social media, email
marketing etc. is required
Languages
– Excellent command of spoken and written English is requird.
– Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be
followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Type of Contract and Duration: Temporary Appointment until 31 December 2023, with the
possibility of further extension subject to availability of funds, need and performance.

requirements in the Job Opening, in order to be considered.
