IRC Background:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In the U.S., the IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Salt Lake City opened it office in 1994, and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Development Officer, the Development Coordinator is responsible for and supports the day-to-day operations of the in-kind donations and volunteer resource development efforts, helping the development team raise the profile of the IRC in Salt Lake City as the agency of choice for community donors, supporters and volunteers. The Development Coordinator will primarily be responsible for the in-kind resource development, including working with individual and group donors to gather, track and disburse much-needed in-kind resources for refugees resettled by the IRC. Additionally, the coordinator will support efforts to engage more than 1,000 volunteers annually, especially working with group and corporate volunteers, in addition to supporting broader development initiatives and donor support. The Development Coordinator plays a crucial role engaging the community to support the work of the IRC in substantial and beneficial ways.

Major Responsibilities:

In-kind Donations Development:

  • Generate, receive, track and maintain in-kind donations from individual donors and local businesses, churches and civic groups.
  • Maintain a close cooperative relationship with in-kind donors, including engaging corporate donors and established community partners.
  • Respond swiftly to inquiries, produce and maintain correspondence with in-kind donors, including over the phone, via email and in-person.
  • Coordinate and support DIY in-kind donation drives organized by community supporters.
  • Support maintenance of daily CIK donation operations and inventory practices in coordination with the Operations Team, including ensuring efficient workflows for donation distribution, especially as it relates to the Matching Grant program.
  • Ensure accurate documentation to account for and track incoming/outgoing CIK, including preparing forms to file in casefiles, supporting regular Integra systems management and maintaining thorough records.
  • Ensure swift processing of client referrals for high-need in-kind items.
  • Lead the coordination of large-scale in-kind donation drives, including but not limited to an annual Winter Clothing Drive and the Light One Candle holiday gift drive.

Volunteer Operations:

  • Become familiar with IRC policies, programs, and procedures as they relate to individual and group volunteer roles.
  • Maintain the IRC in Salt Lake City’s Principles for Partner Engagement when working with community and corporate groups.
  • Be responsible for the process to generate, establish guidelines for and match group and corporate volunteers with appropriate service opportunities for targeted program areas, including resulting tracking and follow-up.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping from corporate, group and DIY volunteers maintained in Salesforce.

Development Support:

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date electronic and paper records on in-kind and monetary contributions, complete donor acknowledgements and maintain donor records in Salesforce.
  • Support the Development Officer with broader supporter engagement strategies, especially those focused on partnership building and corporate engagement opportunities.
  • Supervise volunteers and interns to assist with development team efforts.
  • Assist in the coordination of annual IRC-organized fundraisers and community engagement events.
  • Participate as a member of the IRC in Salt Lake City’s Speakers Bureau, including attending community tabling and speaking events.
  • Contribute regularly to IRC communications, ensuring updates on in-kind donations, group volunteers and other operational needs.
  • Participate in development team meetings, weekly staff meetings, and national skills building trainings, calls, and communities of practice.
  • Support general office logistics, such as office support and front desk, as applicable and feasible.
  • Maintain professionalism, customer service, and IRC Way ideals when working with the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Position Reports to: Development Officer

Position directly supervises: Development Intern, community volunteers

Indirect Reporting: Executive Director, Deputy Directors, Program Managers

Other Internal and/or external contacts: Resource development team, program staff, community supporters.

Job Requirements:

Education OR Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college preferred, and/or
  • 2 years’ experience successfully managing volunteers, working in resource development and/or equivalent experience.

Language Skills: Fluent in English, both spoken and written. Other language skills a plus.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills: the ability to work effectively with partners, donors, and colleagues in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time.
  • Ability to lift 30+ pounds repetitively to navigate everyday logistics of in-kind donations management.
  • Experience developing and providing orientations and trainings.
  • Strong writing and communication skills including experience working in and developing teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using donor CRM systems, especially Salesforce, preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ethics and confidentiality related to fundraising preferred.
  • Commitment to actioning Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts and strategies.
  • Previous customer service experience a plus.
  • Lived experience of the communities served a plus.

Working Environment:

  • Must be based in the service delivery area.
  • Hybrid work setting with option for 1 day working from home each week. A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with legally required insurance. Position will require using own transportation within service delivery area. Mileage reimbursement available.
