The Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform (The Partnerships Platform) is looking for motivated and skilled professionals who are keen to make a difference. The Partnerships Platform is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Secretary Revenue- Nauru. As an inline role, this position will be supported through the Nauru-Australia Economic Governance Program; funded by the Australian Government. The Deputy Secretary for Revenue will manage the Nauru Revenue Office and support the Department of Finance to implement and administer revenue reforms under Nauru’s National Sustainable Development Strategy 2019-2030. As the Deputy Secretary you will have experience in leadership roles including in developing Inland Revenue departments, as well as tertiary qualifications in taxation, accounting, finance or business management.

The areas of focus of the assignment are:

  • To improve the capacity of the NRO to collect taxes and other revenues and charges under the existing regime.
  • To oversee the ongoing implementation of tax reforms in Nauru.
  • To ensure revenue laws are effectively administered.
  • To provide capacity development of NRO staff to effectively implement revenue administration and tax reforms.
  • To promote public relations, community awareness and consultation.
  • To ensure GEDSI principles are incorporated into NRO operations and service provision.

The position is an accompanied, 12 months posting with the option to extend for another 12 months. A competitive international standard remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate, including housing, and return airfares if required for international candidates.

This position is based in Yaren, Nauru. Please note that some flexibility on location and remote working may be considered.

About You

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, respect, resilience and adaptability, and a preparedness to work with limited resources in a challenging environment, this includes the ability to successfully build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in taxation, accounting, finance, business management or related discipline with demonstrated experience in senior executive roles, including senior level experience in a developing Inland Revenue department., including demonstrated capacity to implement reform programs that will impact significantly on the performance of a national tax agency will be highly valued.

You will be required to demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
