ABOUT THE ROLE

The Deputy Regional Director of Communications (located in Seoul, South Korea) will lead our communications work to achieve human rights impact in a region where many countries have repressive human rights records. We are looking for a creative visionary who can head a talented team of communication experts to mobilize people to take action and effect human rights change.

JOB PURPOSE

This strategic communications professional will be well-versed in all forms of communications including media, social media and supporter engagement, adept to the fast-paced global communications environment, and will be impact-focused.

Under the leadership of this individual, regional human rights issues will be prominently covered in the media, campaigns will get audience talking, there will be increased brand recognition in the region and human rights messaging will reach people even in countries where there is restriction on freedom of expression.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assume overall responsibility for the ongoing iteration and implementation of our regional communications strategy to achieve measurable human rights impact
  • To lead the Regional Office Communications Team to ensure that global and regional objectives are reflected
  • To lead the Communications Team to take an audience-first approach, which includes the growth of new audience and engagement of existing supporters, many of whom reside in countries where there are restrictions on freedom of expression
  • To create a culture of innovation, sharing and learning, energizing the regional office to navigate a communications landscape that is constantly changing
  • To increase brand recognition in the region
  • To lead on external crisis management work where necessary

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A strategic communications leader with the skills and experience to enable Amnesty International to mobilise millions of people to take action on human rights.
  • Digitally fluent, an impact-focused communications professional with extensive experience in running a fully integrated, audience-led, multi-disciplinary, multichannel and metrics-driven global communications operation.
  • Well-versed in navigating the fast-changing global communications environment, with a proven track record of building and sustaining engaged audiences across multiple channels and on an international level
  • Experience in promoting a global brand to external audience.
  • Experience in risk and crisis management desirable
  • Proven experience of planning, designing and delivering operational plans, budget and management
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Fluency in one or more regional languages desirable
  • Passion and commitment to human rights issues
