Course Director (Lecturer)

The Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies of the Department of Health and Community Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva is looking for a Lecturer (Course Director), 40 per cent, in the framework of the creation of a new executive course Certificate of advanced studies (CAS) in Accountability. Under the direct responsibility of the Head of Learning, the Course Director will have the responsibility to create and teach our new CAS in Accountability (online course).

This position includes to:

  • Develop a course plan and outline which will present the various scholarly debates
    related to “accountability” in Humanitarian Action (participatory approaches, normative
    vs operational accountability, best practices, data politics, transparency, good
    governance, localization of aid and the decolonization of the humanitarian sector) as
    well as the multiple tools and mechanisms used in humanitarian organizations to
    ensure “accountability”.
  • Submit the accreditation documents to the University of Geneva.
  • Identify external speakers and experts who could intervene in the course to present the
    practical and methodological aspects of accountability processes.
  • Create a steering committee composed of representatives of the Centre’s strategic
    partners (WFP, ICRC, UNDP, UNICEF) as well as academic staff.
  • Work in close collaboration with the technopedagogue to develop online modules and
    digital pedagogic content and tools.
  • Develop modes of evaluation of participants’ progress and final exam.
  • If the pandemic allows, facilitate an in-person session in Nairobi.
  • Teach in the executive education programme of the Centre.
  • Supervise MAS or DAS dissertations (executive education).

Required qualifications and skills

  • University education at PhD level in International Relations, Political Sciences or other

    relevant disciplines in the social sciences; additional experience in training, pedagogy,
    management is an asset.

  • Experience in teaching or research on accountability in humanitarian crises.

  • Experience in adult education including proven ability to develop, coordinate and evaluate
    training modules.

  • Experience in educational engineering.

  • In-depth knowledge of current issues in the humanitarian sector.

  • Knowledge of the Swiss academic system is a plus.

Additional information:
