About MAG:

MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the MAG North-East Syria programme:

MAG has been responding to the Syria crisis since 2013 working to support the development from conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war, so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury.

About the role:

MAG is seeking a Country Security Manager (CSM) to manage the daily security requirement of the programme including work sites, bases, operational areas and internal and external guard force. The CSM will monitor and assess security conditions and advise the Senior Management Team (SMT) as appropriate. The post holder will also be responsible for developing and delivering safety and security training as well as mentoring and developing the national Health, Safety and Security Manager. This is a great opportunity to use your extensive technical knowledge and experience in security management and analysis to support an organisation working hard to improve the lives of communities in challenging environments.

This role will be based in MAG North East Syria location with frequent travel in the region in NES and Erbil, Iraq.

About you:

The successful candidate will have significant experience of practical security planning and implementation, preferably gained in the context of relief operations in highly volatile areas. The ability to analyse rapidly changing security environments, and react appropriately is also essential. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and liaison skills with an awareness of diplomacy and tact. Accredited academic and/or training qualifications preferably in security management or related and 3 – 5 years of professional experience are essential. Previous experience of working in a humanitarian sector is desirable although consideration would be taken from other sectors with similar context. Areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities, so applicants will need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments. Verbal and written English is essential for this role, with Arabic language skills being beneficial.

As part of MAG’s commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed.
