COORDINATOR, DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS

CARE USA

CARE USA is one of the world’s largest humanitarian and development organizations fighting global poverty. Founded in the wake of World War II, CARE has evolved from delivering CARE Packages of life-saving food to investing in long-term development programs and life-saving humanitarian responses. Our work is centered around and built with the leadership of local partners and local communities with a special lens of always putting women and girls at the center of our approach. During 2020, CARE worked in over 100 countries, reaching more than 90 million people through 1,300 projects.

Policy change is one of the most effective means of achieving greater impact as CARE works to end global poverty and improve the lives of women, girls, and vulnerable populations around the world. CARE is seeking a Digital Communications Coordinator to support the USG Policy and Advocacy Team, in the Policy Advocacy and US Programs Department, in planning and implementing a communications strategy; assisting the development and management of external-facing engagements; and assisting managing relationships with CARE celebrity advocates and chefs’ network.

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Advocacy Digital Media and Communications but provides equal support to all four teams that make up CARE’s USG advocacy team, including Government Relations, Citizen Advocacy Network, Learning Tours and CARE Action.

Responsibilities

  • Rally people for global change by writing and maintaining online petition pages, pitching and drafting emails and SMS text messages to subscribers, and supporting website copywriting for all advocacy-specific landing pages.
  • Be a storyteller for CARE’s advocacy work and synthesize reports, interviews, videos, imagery, and stories of impact from the field for external audiences. Use a variety of content to plan and implement communications strategies that advance the organization’s policy and advocacy agenda and inspire supporters to join us.
  • Strengthen CARE’s advocacy by supporting content needs for advocacy-led events and recruitment of new celebrities, influencers, and chefs. Help draft speaker talking points, briefings, toolkits, event flyers, and other materials for moments of activation across the department.
  • Build concise and consistent messaging for the department on each of our priority issue areas by organizing and maintaining talking points, key stats, and program participant stories.

Requirements

  • Digital experience. 4+ years’ experience in digital communications, content creation, or related field. Experience in public policy and advocacy a plus. Familiarity with relevant digital tools and platforms, trends and industry benchmarks.
  • Communications savvy. BA/BS in Journalism, Communications, English or other related field. Exceptional written and oral communication skills with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of development, humanitarian, gender, and/or foreign policy skills.
  • Team player. Willingness to collaborate and receive feedback across multiple teams and departments and understand how your work contributes to broader teams’ goals.
  • Self-starter. Capable of working independently, pitching ideas, setting and following deadlines, and project management.
  • Mission-driven. Interest in and passion for CARE’s mission and values and how that shows up in your work.
