Purpose and Objectives:

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is an autonomous international organization that works to build the resilience of people and institutions to disasters and climate change impacts in Asia and the Pacific.

SERVIR-Mekong is one of the five hubs under SERVIR—a joint development initiative of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). SERVIR-Mekong has been implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), Thailand since 2014. SERVIR-Mekong uses geospatial data to enhance climate change adaptation and help address the regional challenge of managing shared natural resources.

In order to showcase the successes of Phase I of SERVIR-Mekong since its launch in 2014, we plan to develop a coffee table book that will be launched during an event at The Space Inspirium, Bangkok, Thailand, tentatively on 24th August, 2022.

The consultant will develop the concept of the coffee table book, design the book and provide content writing and copy-editing support in addition to providing general communications support. The consultant will also produce two short videos to promote SERVIR-Mekong and provide Social media content support.

Expected Outputs:

The following outputs are expected from the assignment:

  1. One Coffee-table book
  2. One ~ five-minute video to highlight SERVIR-Mekong’s Achievements
  3. One ~ one-minute video press release.
  4. Ten Social media posts including infographics.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Coffee-table Book

The consultant is expected to provide a concept proposal outlining the coffee table book’s contents and look and feel. The proposal should include a list of identified contents to be captured in the coffee table book including human-interest stories and a detailed work plan with clear tasks and completion date. Once approved, the consultant will move on to the next set of activities:

In close consultation with ADPC and USAID the consultant will identify/develop contents to be captured in the coffee table book and human-interest stories. The consultant will also draft articles and copy-edit submitted contents by ADPC and USAID to check for accuracy, language, cohesion and grammar. ADPC and USAID will approve the articles

Source compelling and high-quality photographs from ADPC and SERVIR image repository and the consultant will be responsible for photo correction

The consultant will lay out the texts and photographs in the book ensuring high quality of work (editorial, design and production)

Content development will also include illustrations/infographics where needed to creatively present facts and figures.

After approval of contents and visuals, the consultant will work closely with the contracted printer. The latter will provide expert advice such as paper quality, binding etc. and all vital matters that will ensure a high-quality coffee table book

The consultant is expected to produce a mock-up of the coffee table book. The consultant shall allow at least three rounds of revision and approval for final production.

Once the mock-up is approved, the consultant will liaise and work closely with the contracted printer (assigned by ADPC) to print the finalized coffee table book

The consultant will also produce digital adaptation of the coffee table book as E-version (downloadable version of the coffee table book)

The consultant will deliver soft copies (working file) in InDesign and PDF.

Videos

Using stock videos, images, pre-recorded interviews and footage from the field (subject to availability), develop compelling videos to 1) highlight the relevance and impact of SERVIR-Mekong’s work to the general public and 2) encourage local (Thai) and regional media to attend the event.

Social Media

Develop succinct social media posts for Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook and accompanying infographics.

Working Principles:

The consultant will report to the ADPC Communications focal point for SERVIR-Mekong. The contract will be managed by the Geospatial Information Department of ADPC.

Qualifications:

The consultant is expected to possess the following qualifications.

  • Minimum five years’ work experience in designing and developing similar products is required. Submit at least three (3) similar completed creative projects
  • Proven experience in copyediting, photo editing, video production, infographics, and visual communication
  • Proven working experience of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro
  • Ability to operate under strict time limits and apply high production and technical standards for the purpose of maintaining high level of professionalism
  • Proven experience of working in a diverse and multicultural environment
  • Proven ability to work with tight deadlines and flexibility

Duty Station: Home-based

Duration: Starting in early April, the duration of this assignment will be 5 months

Condition of payment: Payment will be made based on completion of outputs, as per the payment schedule agreed by the consultant and ADPC.
