International Potato Center

The International Potato Center (CIP) seeks an expert consultant in Soil Science/Agronomy to advice and support the implementation of the project: Seed Secure Meghalaya: “Establishment of Low-Cost Formal and Informal Potato Seed Production System to Enhance Food Security and Income Generation”.

This consultant will be based in Shillong, Meghalaya and coordinate directly with the Project Coordinator.

Expected duration and conditions:

  • This consultancy contract is from July to December 2022, with the possibility of renewal.
  • The payment is a fixed and consolidated fee.

Deliverables:

Monthly reports based on the following activities:

  1. Coordinate and interact with partners to ensure proper execution of the project with respect to crop management.
  2. Advice and support the properly plan and execution of the project’s activities.
  3. Conduct, analyse and document the experimental findings. Manage research data generated from field trials to maintain an accurate and updated database system.
  4. Support on administration and logistics operations to guarantee an effective supply chain for the projects’ needs.
  5. Conduct statistical research analysis and produce technical reports for Project Manager in order to inform the progress of the project.
  6. Produce progress reports of the experiments on regular basis.
  7. Develop scientific articles for publication in journals in order to disseminate project findings.
  8. Organize capacity building activities as training events and workshops for different stakeholders.

Qualifications/special skills

  • Masters or higher degree in Soil Science/Agronomy/Vegetable Science/Horticulture or related areas.
  • Minimum 06 years of relevant research experience.
  • Proven experience working on multi-institutional projects and strong understanding of integrating gender and other social equity considerations into project design, delivery and technical reporting.
  • Good record of scientific and technical publications.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Meghalaya.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills in English and fluent in Hindi.
