Fairtrade Africa
Objective
To formulate a comprehensive and inclusive social compliance and risk management strategy.
Scope of work
The consultant will collaborate closely with FTA’s Social Compliance and risk Management (SCRM) department to achieve the following:
1. Assess the current status of social compliance and risk management practices at Fairtrade Africa
. Through a desktop review outline a detailed analysis on existing initiatives, Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis, policies, existing strategies, for and within FTA that support social compliance and risk management. Global regulations and guidelines, such as the SDGs and HREDD, as well as regional laws that address social compliance and risk management, can also be highlighted.
2. Surveys and Data Collection:
• Design and execute a virtual data collection plan to gather comprehensive data on the current status of social compliance and risk management at FTA.
• To facilitate data collection through surveys, discussions and consultation with staff, producer organizations and relevant stakeholders within the Fairtrade Africa networks, for efficient and effective development of the social compliance and risk management strategy.
3. Data analysis
• Analyze the findings to identify gaps, trends, challenges, and opportunities to guide the development of the strategic actions, actionable steps and timelines for enhancing social compliance and risk management.
• Prepare and present detailed reports from the data analysis, highlighting key findings and insights.
Deliverables
The consultants responsible for strategy development will be expected to deliver the following:
Develop an inception report that details the status of social compliance and risk management practices at Fairtrade Africa, an appropriate and robust methodology that will be implemented to complete the assignment with a detailed work plan.
A comprehensive social compliance and risk management strategy document with an executive summary outlining Fairtrade Africa’s strategic direction, goals, and strategic action plans for the specified period (e.g., 5 years).
Data collection materials: Survey tools/instruments, and detailed analysis reports with the data collected
Monitoring, evaluation, learning and Accountability (MEAL) logical frameworks to track progress, assess impact, and facilitate learning throughout the implementation phase.
Timeline
The strategy development process is expected to be completed within four (4) months, with regular progress updates provided to Fairtrade Africa’s management team.
Qualifications
The ideal consultant should possess the following qualifications:
Relevant academic qualifications in social sciences, development studies, agriculture-related studies, or a related field.
Demonstrated expertise in social compliance themes including gender and youth inclusion, child protection, labour rights, human rights and Fairtrade standards, and related areas
Proven experience in designing and conducting surveys, data analysis, and report writing.
Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience working with international development organizations is desirable.
Proven ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, and to deliver promptly within cost and quality standards.
