Oxfam Novib

  1. Background & purpose of the consultancy

Oxfam Novib is developing a Feminist Influencing Basket of resources, a collection of adaptable activities and tactics that will be used across all Oxfam projects and by partners worldwide. In response to the changing world, the resource will be a go-to guide on ways of working and engagement at different levels using an intersectional, feminist, participatory approach, where women in specific contexts and other groups who are marginalized or silenced take active and meaningful roles in using the resource, through:

  • Unpacking power dynamics and systems of oppression that reinforce systemic violence.
  • Learning tactics and strategies for instilling an ethic of care through connecting to indigenous healing knowledge systems for individual and global wellbeing.
  • Enhancing feminist narratives in joint actions – toward creating a bigger collective, “a bigger us”.
  • The practical design of feminist influencing strategies and actions.

The resource aims to make visible the many systems of oppression, understand how they reinforce and support each other, and strengthen strategies to challenge them together and separately through the use of the Feminist Influencing Basket. The resource comes at a time when the whole world is seeking ways of recovering from the COVID19 pandemic, and for most countries in the Global South, recovering from a number of other crises as well, such as the climate crisis and the debt crisis. The Basket has resources and tools that make clear the systems, approaches, tools, and actions that can be built collectively for liberation and feminist transformation.
