General job description

  • Collect and create compelling storytelling content (including visual, audio, and written) in support of Action Against Hunger’s Syria’s Advocacy strategy and communications objectives.
  • Enhance and expand Action Against Hunger’s Syria’s communications outputs in close collaboration with the Advocacy Coordinator.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of all communications products at Action Against Hunger Syria, by upholding policies and providing training per request.

Key activities

Objective 1: Collect compelling storytelling products that show needs in Syria

  • Identify stories and content in collaboration with Program teams that support AAH’s advocacy strategy and communications objectives.
  • Travel with AAH teams or local partners to program areas to gather content.
  • Collect visual content as well as written (testimonies and stories) from field locations.
  • Create compelling communications products using visual and written content from AAH activities.

Objective 2: Expand Mission Communications Outputs and Visibility

  • Develop social media products and manage their dissemination in coordination with AAH Mission and stakeholders in HQ.
  • Oversee consultants and designers as required including managing timelines, budget, and contracts to ensure deliverables are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Provide Arabic written translation per request.

Objective 3: Training and Policy Guidance for Mission

  • Act as a focal point for AAH Branding Requirements and policies related to consent.
  • Develop training on storytelling and communications in collaboration with Mission staff.

Objective 4: Coordination and collaboration among communications stakeholders

  • Proactively manage planning and logistics for communications projects.
  • Collaborate with Mission staff, HQ focal points, and the wider Action Against Hunger global network to ensure Action Against Hunger Syria’s perspective is proactively reflected in communications opportunities.

Candidate description

  • University degree in Media, Journalism or any relevant field.
  • Previous experience in Journalism or in working with an NGOin a Communications role is preferable.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Visual Skills Experience in collecting human interest case studies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with social media management.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to travel.
  • Previous experience:2-5 years.
  • Humanitarian experience 2-3 years.
  • Fluent verbal and written command of English and Arabic.
  • Editing in videomaking and/or graphic design.
  • Good command in digital programs including word, Indesign, and video editing, ect.

Remuneration package

Contract period: 6 months renewable base on Action Against Hunger fund and performance.

Salary/benefits: According to Action Against Hunger’s salary scale and terms and conditions.

Duty station: Damascus.
