Communication and Visibility Specialist (Ukrainian nationals only) (20 %)

Caritas Switzerland (CACH) is one of the leading Swiss NGOs in the field of poverty reduction in Switzerland and abroad. International Cooperation programmes focus on humanitarian aid, income generation, climate change and migration. Caritas Switzerland works through local implementing partners in the Ukraine Crisis Response, focusing on providing technical value-added specifically in livelihoods, protection, shelter, and WASH.

As our Communication and Visibility Specialist, you’ll have the platform to bring the stories of resilience and hope from Ukraine to the world stage. Your work will directly contribute to raising awareness and support for CACH’s humanitarian and development efforts, impacting lives in meaningful ways. Your responsibilities will involve creating a wide range of compelling communication materials to designing social media content that resonates with a local and global audience. Your storytelling skills will be vital in bringing attention to our cause. You will be the voice of our organization, ensuring that our message is not only heard but felt deeply by people around the world. You will ensure that all communication materials align with our branding guidelines and work to enhance the visibility of our efforts.

Your duties

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to effectively convey the CACH’s mission, activities, and impact in Ukraine, in close communication with partners.
  • Content Creation and Management: Producing diverse communication materials like press releases, reports, social media posts, and newsletters. This involves strong writing, editing, and creative skills.
  • Media Relations and Outreach: Building and maintaining relationships with media outlets, pitching stories, and handling media inquiries to maximize coverage of the organization’s work.
  • Visibility and Branding: Ensuring consistent branding across all communication channels and materials, and increasing the visibility of the organization’s efforts and achievements.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Tracking the effectiveness of the projects in the field through communication materials and media coverage, and gathering feedback from beneficiaries to increase the visibility of the programme impact and the voices of people.
  • Crisis Communication: Managing and responding to communication needs during crises, including rapid information dissemination and reputation management.
  • Language and Cultural Sensitivity: Utilizing proficiency in Ukrainian language and understanding cultural contexts to ensure effective and respectful communication.
  • Digital Media Management: Overseeing digital platforms, including social media and websites, ensuring they are up-to-date, engaging, and aligned with communication goals.
  • Team Collaboration and Coordination: Working closely with CACH team and partners to ensure integrated and cohesive communication efforts.
  • Event management: Supporting the CACH team in event and/or workshop planning, arrangement and setting up visibility of the organisation.

Our requirements

  • Advanced degree in journalism, PR and communication or in a related field.
  • At least 2-3 years of professional experience in a PR and communication agency or international organisation.
  • Proven experience in communications, public relations, and social media, preferably within a humanitarian or development context.
  • A deep understanding of the Ukrainian culture, social, and political landscape. Familiarity with the ongoing humanitarian situation in Ukraine is essential for effective communication and engagement in the project sites.
  • Broad experience with maintaining and developing social media channels, and proven skills in content management.
  • Proven skills in photography and video journalism, with experience of photo and video editing.
  • The ability to create compelling and visually attractive materials and narratives.
  • Proficiency in managing digital communication platforms such as social media, websites, and content management systems.
  • Solid skills in writing and editing various print and digital communication products e.g. talking points, newsletter articles, press releases and social media content.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently under tight security environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including medica, local communities, and partners.
  • Being able to creatively address challenges and come up with innovative solutions is important.
  • Native written and spoken Ukrainian; A good command of written and spoken English is an asset.

Location: Lviv, Ukraine with project site visits.

Terms: Consultant contract (20 %)
Starting date: 1st february 2024.
Duration: 6 months with a possibility of extension – depending on funding.
