The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Climate Project Officer inany existing SCI location

ROLE PURPOSE:

With the realisation that climate change is turning into a global crisis affecting children’s rights and future generations, Save the Children endorsed the creation of a Global Climate Crisis Task Force to facilitate coordination of our climate fundraising, advocacy, programming and operations work across the movement, ensuring country, regional and member offices have the tools and guidance they need to help secure a more climate healthy future for children.

As the biggest independent child rights organization, Save the Children’s unique role is in working for the legitimacy and power of children’s voices and their leadership in the climate movement. As a global movement we are empowering and supporting children to be part of the solution and influencing decisions by world and local leaders that will affect their lives today and tomorrow.

This role will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to the lead of Global Climate Crisis Task Force and the Climate Resilience Technical Working Group, and sits within Save the Children International Program Quality and Impact team. The role will have engagement with senior staff members across the organisation, at member, country and regional level.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of Climate Change and child rights issues and challenges
  • Experience in managing project activities, of following through to ensure progress and deadlines, preferably in an international NGO environment
  • Sound judgement and an ability to effectively prioritise multiple tasks in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to adopt a pro-active approach to problem solving working closely with both the senior colleagues as required and offering solutions as appropriate.
  • Proven ability to work effectively at a senior level, gaining trust and confidence with stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence others.
  • Strong communication skills appropriate for high level external representation and the ability to tailor communications to different audiences
  • The ability to liaise and communicate effectively with a broad range of people at all levels, across different cultures and to act with credibility, discretion, tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong planning/anticipation skills. Experience of planning and organising meetings and events, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Thorough – takes pride in delivering high quality work and gives a high level of attention to detail.
  • Self- motivated and ability to work autonomously
  • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Desirable

  • Experience working in a range of country contexts on the issue of climate change.
  • Networks in the climate change and development community
  • Understanding of good knowledge management and capacity building practices – including support for remote learning in multi-country organisations.

We can offer circa £31,000 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.

This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
