Why CARE Climate Justice Center?

CARE is one of the world’s leading multi-mandate aid agencies, fighting poverty and injustice in over 100 countries around the world. CARE’s Vision 2030 shapes the confederation’s work in every context. One of the six outcome areas that CARE jointly works towards is Climate Justice. The CARE Climate Justice Center (CJC), hosted by CARE Nederland, has been assigned responsibility for leading CARE’s global commitment to Climate Justice, with CJC ’s Global Leader being one of six Global Programmatic leads who work directly with the CI Programme Director. The CJC is an endeavor of CARE International, endorsed and actively supported by various CARE members from the Global North. The CJC Global Leader oversees the work and leads a team of 8 experts, based in different CARE offices around the world, that is responsible for the delivery of a joint annual work plan.

What are you going to do?

As the Climate Justice MEAL Specialist, you will contribute to the CJC with particular focus on leading the confederation’s Climate Justice MEL efforts, leading the data analysis related to CARE’s global climate justice indicators, providing training and guidance for Climate Justice MEL, lead on the identification and sharing of knowledge across the CARE confederation and ensure accountability with regards to CARE’s climate justice policies and strategy.

You will be responsible for:

Measurement, Evaluation and Learning (40%)

  • You lead the validation of all Climate Justice related data gathered in CARE’s Project and Program Information and Impact Reporting System (PIIRS).
  • You analyze data and produce annual reports and visuals on these data and facilitate the dissemination of the analysis and associated learnings in collaboration with the CJC team and other relevant CARE colleagues.
  • You train the confederation in the use of the PIIRS climate smart indicators, the PIIRS climate justice indicators and the Climate Justice marker/resilience marker.
  • You lead the development and/or revision of MEL guidance and tools related to Climate Justice.
  • You liaise and work with CARE’s global CI- MEL team.

Knowledge management, learning and sharing (40%)

  • You establish standard mechanisms for identifying best practices and evidence/impact across CARE’s Climate Justice work.
  • You coordinate the maintenance of internal knowledge management systems such as CARE Shares and work together with the CJC communications coordinator to ensure that relevant CJ programming information is stored on the CJC website in an accessible way, and is regularly updated.
  • You liaise and work with other CARE Knowledge Management focal points to establish capacity for Climate Justice learning across the Confederation and for keeping abreast of and engaged with KML innovations and networks across CARE.
  • You connect with knowledge institutes and external communities of practice, networks and platform to increase visibility of CARE’s knowledge and impact work and ensure CARE’s technical knowledge products are published on key external knowledge platforms.
  • You will lead on the development of case-studies, tools and lessons learned on one flagship report every 1,5 years.

Provide support to other team members (20%)

You support the CJC team or global lead in other relevant activities such as the implementation of the CARE Climate and Environment Policy.

We are looking for a candidate that meets the following qualifications:

  • Advanced academic degree in a related field, such as climate change, communications, global development, economics or any closely related area.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in an international organization in a related thematic field (KML, MEL).
  • Strong understanding and experience in the use of big databases/data processing tools (e.g. Excel) and working with qualitative and quantitative research/evaluation methods, creating reports and dashboards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development and humanitarian programs.
  • Substantial experience in facilitating KM and setting up KML systems.
  • Experience in developing and implementing impact measurement activities.
  • Thorough understanding of Climate Justice programs.
  • Solid writing, oral communication and organizational skills and excellent command of English verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated training capacities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with others across countries and cultures and in complex international networks and to develop and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work effectively and accurately under extreme deadline pressure.
  • Is a team player who understands the meaning of cooperation to realize the goals of the team.
  • Proactive attitude and willing to further develop knowledge and skills.

CARE has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment, abuse and exploitation and participates in the Inter-Agency Misconduct Disclosure Scheme.

We offer:

  • A one-year full time contract (38 hours a week) with possible extension.
  • A gross monthly salary based on BBRA scale 10 (EUR 2.968,11 – EUR 4.770,68), classification depends on relevant working experience.
  • International work environment in which you work with colleagues from different backgrounds.
  • CARE can only hire personnel in countries where a CARE country office is situated. Depending on your country of residence, you will be hired and located in the CARE office in your country with the possibility for working from home two days a week.
