Climate Finance Transaction Lead, Caribbean

ACDI/VOCA is seeking a Climate Finance Transaction Lead for an anticipated economic development program in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean funded by USAID

The Climate Finance Transaction Lead will be responsible for the developing an active pipeline of innovative climate mitigation and adaptation projects to mobilize private investment. The Transaction Lead will work closely with project staff, institutional partners and other private /corporate financial institutions to build and expand a network of potential project sponsors and investors to increase financing for climate-resilient investments. The Project Lead will also engage with policy makers, government officials and industry players to identify technical assistance needs to bring projects investment ready.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical interventions to support the development of viable climate resilience projects to be presented to private sector investors, multilateral organizations, government agencies and/or international climate funds. Lead the work of project partners in the identification of strong pipeline of potential investment opportunities to be introduced to institutional investors and other public and private sector partners.
  • Form strategic partnerships with institutional investors and financial service providers including, banks, microfinance institutions, and insurance companies, to expand the outreach of finance and investment opportunities to SMEs implementing climate resilient projects.
  • Lead and design innovative financial solutions to increase private sector investment in climate resilient projects, including but not limited to public-private partnerships, risk-sharing instruments, and/or blended finance facilities.
  • Develop relationships with potential co-investors and industry partners; grow relationships into co-financing opportunities.
  • Work closely with the private sector engagement team to link firms to appropriate financial services and technical assistance providers to bring them investment ready.
  • Conduct institutional assessment to understand the ability for project developers to access, manage, and absorb climate finance.
  • Support and monitor pre-investment and post-investment technical assistance and monitor impact; identity, design, and recommend technical assistance to bring companies investment-ready, investees.
  • Lead the work of project partners in the identification of strong pipeline of potential investment opportunities to be introduced to institutional investors and other public and private sector partners.
  • Proactively engage with leading market experts, seek market intelligence, identify climate investment trends and innovations and communicate with market and industry participants in the private sector.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field is required; MBA degree or Master in Finance degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant and progressive work experience, preferably in climate finance, impact investment, investment advisory; and regional or international investment facilities.
  • At least 3 years of management experience.
  • Ability to structure climate finance transactions using multiple financial products including equity and guarantees.
  • Demonstrated experience of leading investment proposals in the area of climate mitigation and/or adaptation; and ESG
  • Knowledge and experience of engaging with institutional investors and financial institutions.
  • Understanding of the evolving landscape in climate change and international development.
  • Experience working in Eastern and Southern Caribbean preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
