The Opportunity

  • Provide, or obtain from SC CO sources, appropriate high level technical support during emergancies on methods and practices to be rolled out within Child Protection programming;
  • H/She will coordinate with the CP Mananger for smooth leadership and management of CP Awards in WD.
  • H/She will work with the CP/CRG Manager (HPIs) in providing strategic and operational leadership to develop and implement successful CP programmes.
  • The CP Coordinator in collaborate with CP/CRG Manager/HPIs will manage and guide the project team to ensure adherence to overall technical and programmatic quality in implementation, compliance with donor regulations, and the timely submission of all deliverables, including annual work plans, performance monitoring plans, repots as required.
  • Lead the continuous assessment of Child Protection needs during emergancies and ensure that these are appropriately reflected in sectoral strategies and programmes;
  • Work collaboratively with other emergency units and sectors on ways to integrate child protection with other programmes, where relevant, in order to maximize impact for children and families;
  • Ensure reports to donors are of the highest quality, that there is alignment between the narrative and financial, and that they are submitted in a timely fashion ; With the MEALManager and Coordinators, contribute on the development of tools to monitor and improve the quality of child protection work.
  • Where necessary provide technical training for staff and partners on child protection related topics as required.
  • Lead the process of lessons learning and development of success stories in coordination with MEAL and communication
  • Improve/strengthen the coordination of Save the Children’s work with the relevant ministries on child protection.
  • Ensure recognized international best practices and Save the Children policies are applied in the work with children;
  • Ensure program products and learning are maintained within the Save the Children country program.

Maintain regular contact and seek guidance from the CPiE Specialist and CP/CRG Programme Manager at CO level.

Programme development

  • Provide input for programme development in close coordination with the PDQ and Field Managers, finance and operations staff;
  • Ensure updated and accurate needed information for use in program development;
  • Work with colleagues from other sectors to coordinate on and integrate child protection programing to ensure children’s needs are met.

Financial and Budgeting Management

  • Manage the CP project spending against budget to ensure acceptable monthly performance and funds are optimally used for the intended purpose as per approved fund summary and annual plan.
  • Undertake monthly budget forecase and monitoring for child protection activities in each award in order to ensure implementation and accuracy of financial reports, manage budget variances, explain variances and propose measures for managing the variances.
  • Ensure that all financial policies and regulations relating to cash flow management, expenditure controls, cash management, accounting information, and advances management are adhered to.

External Relations (Advocacy, Networking and Influencing)

  • Represent SC in the relevant meetings and working groups in the specified location.
  • Maintain strategic links with key duty bearers and stakeholders such as governmental bodies, UN agencies, INGOs and other local NGOs and community organizations, identify opportunities and ensure Save the Children’s participation in key activities of local level
  • Review and provide feedback on SOPs and Minimum Standards for Child Protection, Case Manangement, FTR, MHPSS, GBV, CRG at an inter-agency level
  • Support to clearly articulate the child protection advocacy messages in the field location for the Sudan country office. In cooperation with Advocacy and Communications staff, develop an advocacy plan (with timeline and key outcomes) and ensure implementation at national, county and community level.
  • Document and share lessons and learning’s from advocacy engagements.

Capacity building, team work and staff supervision

  • Work with the Child Protection/CRG Manager ensure adequate capacity building and technical support to the field teams (Child Protcetion and Case Management teams) through training, mentorship and coaching.
  • Ensure that all area level CP staff understand and are able to perform their role in a humanitarian response and development context.
  • Support the recruitment, training and promotion of staff as appropriate and ensure availability of appropriate professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of detailed annual work plans and key monthly deliverables for CP staff at the field level.
  • Actively support team cohesion and a positive work environment
  • Assist in the Performance management of the CP staff in coordination with the CP/CRG

Essential

Manager as per organisational policies and procedures.

  • Significant professional experience of at least 4 years, including experience working at a senior management or technical level in child protection and advocacy for international NGOs
  • Very good understanding of the child protection sector, particularly issues related to child protection in emergencies, family separation, and mental health and psychosocial support.
  • Clear understanding of the intersection of child protection with other thematic areas
  • Proven representation skills.
  • Strong commitment to capacity building of national staff and partners with willingness to adopt participatory and consultative approaches.
  • Experience with child protection programming in humanitarian settings absolutely required.
  • Ability to compile narrative sections and thematic budgets for proposals; ability to compile/edit/write narrative reports
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing practices.
  • Experience solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner.
  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with emergency response teams, in the event of emergencies.
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written, required
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Sudan economic, social, political and cultural contexts.

Knowledge about international donor-compliance regulations, especially for SIDA, EU, ECHO and SH
