Position title: Senior Vice President/Chief Impact Officer

This is a full-time, executive leadership position that can be located in any country where ChildFund has an office, with a preference for candidates with proximity to our International Office in Virginia, USA.

About This Role
ChildFund International has launched an ambitious 2030 strategy, Growing Connections, with the bold goal of reaching reach 100 million vulnerable children and family members annually. Over the next decade, ChildFund will positively impact more children through scaling child-centered programs, influencing the child development ecosystem, and growing new capabilities to scale impact. As a member of the Executive Team, the Chief Impact Officer is responsible for accelerating ChildFund’s global strategy by driving the growth and expansion of its work to new and existing populations around the world. The Chief Impact Officer will manage ChildFund’s public-sector donor relationships and a global portfolio of publicly and privately funded projects designed to empower vulnerable children and families around the world and help to ensure the highest technical quality across the organization’s sector work to effectively empower children to grow up healthy, educated, skilled, and safe.

Required Experience and Education

  • A university degree is required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, MA in development studies, or similar) is preferred.
  • At least 15 years of work experience in the international non-profit sector, management consulting, or related area, with at least 5 years leading business development activities.
  • Extensive experience in business development, research, monitoring and evaluation, and/or marketing, with a track record of driving growth and revenue.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing programs and operations at the country office level.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy and execute plans and a roadmap to expand ChildFund programs in accordance with the goal of reaching 100 million children and family members worldwide by 2030 (Strategic Direction #1).
  • Develop strategy and execute plans to expand and diversify ChildFund financial resources from governments, especially the US government, and support acquisition of grants from major foundations.
  • Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to attract resources to programs.
  • Develop strategy and execute plans to expand ChildFund geographic and population coverage, especially in Africa, through partnerships, Alliance members, and new operating models.
  • Develop and stand up a competent team to lead ChildFund efforts to protect children in crisis and establish ChildFund as a leader that has networks, resources, and intellectual assets for protecting children during humanitarian crises and disasters.
  • Learn about and introduce adaptations of programs to make them relevant and reflective of changes and shifts in the global or regional INGO operating contexts (e.g., digital delivery), ensuring program quality and impact measurement and reporting.
  • As a member of the Executive Team, lead achievement of the Equitable Outcomes related to programs and support initiatives to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of ChildFund.
  • Provide leadership to and oversight of senior leaders, including three Regional Directors; the Vice President, Programs, Resources, and Institutional Learning; the Director, Protecting Children in Crisis; the Director, Business Development; and the Director, Safety & Security.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources related to global programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
  • Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding Policy.

Required Competencies

  • The ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English; fluency or professional proficiency in another language is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of the INGO global context, including emerging issues and how organizations are responding to these changes.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills, including cultural competency and the ability to foster and strengthen external partnerships.
  • Strong self-awareness with the willingness to set an example for inclusive leadership.
  • The ability to serve as a champion for change and the ability to lead change while cultivating a culture of innovation.

Other Requirements

  • The ability to travel internationally.
  • Current work authorization in a ChildFund country of operation.
