ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the CAR Country Director and the HR, Administration and Logistics Manager, the accountant will work closely with the Regional Office in Nairobi.

LOGISTICS

Internews has field offices in Bangui, Central African Republic. Ultimately, this role will be based in Bangui, CAR.

Wherever possible, we work to try to find solutions for international hiring that work for both the company and the candidate. DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Review supporting documents and ensure timely payment of authorized and approved transactions;
  • Ensure that recipients are informed of any discrepancies contained in supporting documents;
  • Ensure that payment of invoices to service providers and goods are in accordance with existing contracts;
  • Maintain and update accounting files, fixed asset register in accordance with accounting policy and procedures including operation vouchers;
  • Follow up on sub-grants from partners for the different projects;
  • Prepare the cash account to maintain daily reconciliation of petty cash advances and submit weekly and monthly cash survey report;
  • Review daily bank statements;
  • Perform data entry in Quick Books;
  • Perform vetting for all new vendors and participants;
  • Prepare payroll;
  • Support in the preparation of allocations or budget;
  • In all duties, an understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Prior experience (at least 5 years) in accounting in the non-profit sector, preferably in an international NGO;
  • Proven ability in handling confidential and/or sensitive information;
  • Strong grasp of Microsoft Windows environment using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer;
  • Organized, logical, detail-oriented;
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and to complete tasks on time;
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues from different departments;
  • Experience working in a collaborative international team environment;
  • Proficiency in French, English and Sango.
