Organizational Context and Scope:

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. With 173-member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. As an important function of its mandate, IOM is the Cluster Lead Agency for Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) for natural disaster-induced displacement situations under the 2005 IASC Humanitarian Reform. In line with the commitments to the global Call to Action on Protection Against Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies, and in accordance with the IASC Guidelines for Integrating Gender-Based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Action (2015), IOM has been working to improve GBV prevention and risk mitigation in Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) operations worldwide.

Timely and accurate information is integral to successful coordination of humanitarian action in a camp setting. The ability to collect, collate, analyze, disseminate and act on data pertaining to the protection and welfare situation of camp residents is fundamental to an effective intervention.

Under the overall supervision of the global CCCM Cluster Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Information Management Officer, the Information Management Intern’s (IM Intern) role is to support IOM’s CCCM team in providing knowledge management, information management and analysis capacity at the global level and country-level, with a particular focus on the identification, prevention and mitigation of GBV risks.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  1. Develop our knowledge management platform to improve ease of access for field staff to resources and technical assistance by HQ support team.
  2. Work with the CCCM Cluster IMO to support country-level data collection, analysis and visualization.
  3. Support the production of infographics and reports illustrating the activities, role and achievements on CCCM globally.
  4. Support testing and user support for IOMs Community Feedback Mechanism
  5. Support qualitative data analysis from the Women’s Participation Project.
  6. Contribute to regular reporting on IOM’s global CCCM activities.
  7. Provide information management, analysis and mapping support for IOMs CCCM operations.
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • University degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Media or Social Sciences or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
  • Only applications received within 12 months of their date of graduation will be accepted.

Experience

  • Proven ability to visualize complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate data collection exercises.
  • Demonstrated understanding of different data collection methodologies.
  • Strong ability to analyse statistical information.
  • Ability to compile and holistically analyse diverse datasets;
  • Understanding of knowledge management best practices.

SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word and design software (Inkscape, Figma, Adobe Creative, Suite or equivalent) required.
  • Familiarity with statistical software (Python, or similar); data visualization software (PowerBI, Tableau, or equivalent); data collection tools (Kobo or equivalent); and GIS software (QGIS, Arc GIS or equivalent) an advantage.

Languages:

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge in French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
