Job position — Case Worker

Work location– Adamawa (Mubi & Yola) and Borno (Ngala)

Reporting to – (Hierarchical): Protection officer Supervision of – N/A

(Technical): PSS/GBV Specialist

General purpose of the position

The Case Worker will provide psychosocial support, basic case management support to survivors of gender-based violence through individual counselling follow up support, referrals and dissemination of information on available GBV services to encourage access to services and have the responsibility of assessing protection needs, developing immediate care and treatment goals, and implementing and monitoring women, men and children clients’ care action plans alongside provision of basic psychosocial support services, in coordination with PSS team lead. The incumbent shall collaboration with the PSS team lead overseeing the provision of psychosocial /group support, skills building, information sessions and other recreational activities that promotes social support networks and cohesion with women and girls at the women and girls’ centers/safe spaces and other community member with protection needs alongside male survivors of SGBV

Tasks and Main Responsibilities

· Manages an open caseload as per INTERSOS standards and conducts intake interviews with individuals and develops a tailored case plan with the client, based on the needs identified during assessment sessions.

· Documents cases and ensures that any progress on the individual’s action plan and any significant change in the client’s psychosocial well-being and overall situation is duly recorded in a timely fashion.

· Provides continuous basic emotional support via regular follow-up meetings, establishing a relationship built on trust and respecting confidentiality protocols.

· Discharge cases when the objectives in the case plan have been met and no further needs have been identified.

· Conducts service mapping assessments in the assigned area and support the development of referral systems with different service providers and the local NGO/CSO partner.

· Plans and implements awareness raising activities, focus group discussions, and training workshops as instructed by the supervisory/managerial team.

· Participates in individual supervision sessions on a weekly basis with the Case Worker Team Lead, bringing immediate attention to any case of special/emergency needs.

· Participates in internal case conferences, team meetings, trainings and workshops as scheduled by the supervisory and management team.

· Collaborates with INTERSOS teams from other departments (WASH, Health & Nutrition, Livelihoods, etc…) in order to ensure holistic solutions to beneficiaries’ needs.

· Identifies and reports gaps in the availability and quality of service provision for clients in the target areas.

· Documents all general protection activities as per INTERSOS and donor reporting regulations and transmit these on a weekly basis to the Case Worker Team Lead for compilation.

· Carries out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including but not limited to; do no harm; non-discrimination; confidentiality, accountability, and need-to-know principles.

· Any other activities specified by the supervisory/managerial team.

Position Requirements

Professional requirements

· University degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Law, etc…)

· Minimum 2-year relevant work experience with an INGO, NGOs and/or related local authorities in Nigeria.

Personal requirements

· Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, etc…)

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

· Ability and motivation to work well with local authorities, local leaders and local community.

· Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.

· Capacity to work under pressure and willingness to work and live in a complex context.
