Brian Mulligan concept for upper and lower extremities with neck and back (A+B)

Objectives of training:

The physiotherapy treatment of musculoskeletal injuries has progressed from its foundation in remedial gymnastic and active exercise to therapist applied passive physiological movements and on to therapist applied accessory technique ,Brian mulligan concept of mobilization with movement (MWMs) in the extremities and sustained natural apophyseal glide (SNAGs) in the spine are the logical continuance of this evolution with the concurrent application of both therapist -applied accessory and patient generated active physiological movement, so the main objective developing an understanding of the principles that underlie Mulligan concept in Part A: Upper Quarter – Peripheral Joints, Cervical and Thoracic Spines and Part B: Lower Quarter – Peripheral Joints, Lumbar Spine and Sacroiliac joints, and how to perform the hand-on technique So the aim of this training is to use Mulligan approach in the rehabilitation program to improve the activities of daily living (ADL) and quality of life (QoL) of the individuals.

Specific objectives:

  • To define concept of Brian mulligan
  • To know the effectiveness of Brian Mulligan techniques on improve ROM and relief the pain
  • To Explain the precaution, contraindication, indication in apply Mulligan concept.
  • To practice hand-on Mulligan concept on UEs, LEs, Back, neck

Content of the training

  • Mulligan concept definition, and benefits.
  • Evidence based of mulligan concept.
  • Review biomechanics of joint.
  • Effect of Mulligan mobilization on disc prolapse.
  • Precautions, contraindication and indication of using Mulligan concept.
  • Mulligan mobilization for Upper Quarter – Peripheral Joints, Cervical and Thoracic Spines
  • Mulligan mobilization Lower Quarter – Peripheral Joints, Lumbar Spine and Sacroiliac joints.

Expected results:

The participant will be able to

  • Understanding the Mulligan concept
  • Implement the Mulligan approach for relevant cases according to assessment.
  • Identify what are the symptoms of cases that need treat by Mulligan approach.
  • Know the contraindication, precaution, indication in practice Mulligan approach difficulties.
  • Know how can use Mulligan belt on needed cases.

Expected Deliverables

  • Theoretical material used during the training.
  • Mulligan belt.
  • Assessment forms.
  • Implement Mulligan approach on real cases.
  • Report of the training: general assessment of trainees, capacities and understanding.
  • Pre/post-tests (to be arranged by the trainers)
  • Results of pre and post-test, recommendation for further knowledge and skills development.

Training Dates: before 15 march 2023.

Participants:

Profile and background: PTs and OTs with university bachelor level, In addition, Rehab Technical Officers (TO) with PT/OT background.
