The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Iraq since 2014 and has maintained a country office in Baghdad since 2018. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Federal Foreign Office (AA) and the European Union (EU), GIZ is working on the three priority areas in Iraq. GIZ offers support in Iraq to help refugees, internally displaced people and host communities improve their living conditions. Here, the aim is to promote social cohesion, create income opportunities and revitalise the local economy. In addition, GIZ has adopted a holistic approach to help improve the country’s economic policy framework. It also promotes the employment and economic prospects for young Iraqis. These measures are being implemented in the autonomous region of Kurdistan and in central Iraq. To ensure that Iraqis have better access to public services in future, GIZ is also supporting the decentralisation of the Iraqi administration. The aim is to improve organisational structures and work processes at various administrative levels.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is commissioned with two projects dedicated to the reconstruction of Anbar governorate: “Restoration of Peace, Livelihoods and Economic Cycles in Anbar” (RePLECA) and “Assisting Reconstruction and Improving Living Conditions in Anbar” (ARILA). Both projects are part of the German Transitional Development Assistance (TDA) in Anbar.

The GIZ TDA Anbar is coordinated and implemented with several partners. ARILA and RePLECA are working at the governmental level with the Government of Anbar and relevant Directorates as well as with municipal authorities, the University of Anbar, the Central Reconciliation Committee, Local Peace Committees, as well as civil society organizations. Both projects cover Ramadi, Fallujah, and Heet districts with different types of interventions

  • Drives GIZ staff or work-related persons in GIZ vehicles.
  • Delivers items or documents to GIZ premises, partners and other organisations. 
  • Ensures the orderly operation and cleanliness of GIZ vehicles. 
  • Maintains thorough vehicle logbooks and prepares the mileage charges for private and/or other programmes. 
  • Reports in timely manner and observes maintenance and repair requirements
  • Supports the preparation, transfer, assembly and dismantling of materials and equipment for different GIZ workshops and/or meetings. 
  • Purchase small items using petty cash and provide support in obtaining bids for procurements.
  • Provides additional technical office assistance and maintenance, where appropriate and needed.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications

  • Minimum secondary school qualification
  • Good knowledge of English language (min. B2 language level)
  • Minimum 3 years work experience as a driver for INGOs, international agencies, or professional driving service providers.
  • Advanced driver training skills (e.g. defensive driving), certified by a professional company
  • Certified participation in a gender awareness training is an asset
  • Certified participation in a First Aid and Emergency Response training is an asset

Additional desired qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Baghdad and Al-Anbar roads
  • Basic knowledge of general mechanics
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office and skilled internet user
