As a Jira Atlassian Tools Engineer you will lead various development and support activities for Jira and related tools across Mutual of Omaha.  Jira is a strategic platform and application used by the Information Services Operation and many Business areas at Mutual of Omaha for workflow, collaboration and integration with other applications and tools.  In this opportunity you will play a crucial role in how the platform is used across the organization and aligned with Mutual of Omaha’s strategic Technology Modernization initiative and optimization of Atlassian’s Cloud and Data Center direction. 

You will be a key partner and SME working with Agile Release Train team members and leadership, feature development teams, infrastructure, and operations teams as well as business leadership to develop process and technical capabilities for workflows and content that will facilitate delivery of business value.   You are naturally curious and like to solve problems.  You are customer-centric. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Provide leadership and be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the enterprise implementation of Jira/Confluence and strategy for migration from server based implementations to Jira Data Center and cloud instances.  Lead participatory decision making with the team to develop and evolve the design architecture and migration strategy.
  • Be the SME for Jira integration with other Enterprise tools including Apptio TargetProcess, SalesForce CRM, BMC Remedy and platforms (AWS, other cloud providers)
  • Communicate and collaborate with Business Users and Technical Engineers of different levels adapting your communication approach and language to connect with your audience.
  • Be a change agent and drive innovation on how work is managed and performed with Jira and related tools. Gather requirements for business processes and determine ways to optimize/improve Jira setup and workflows, as well as identify where functionality can/cannot meet user requests to align software fit for purpose.
  • Be a key technical SME for supplier contact (Atlassian, Apptio TargetProcess) and troubleshoot application issues and add-on integration issues
  • Install, configure and administer Atlassian toolset, including Jira server, Data Center and Cloud
  • Develop metrics dashboards and advanced filters in Jira to provide end-users and business leadership with meaningful operational/performance metrics and status reports
  • Using Jira REST APIs, develop one-off solutions for integrations with other tools, automate manual processes, data migration routines and extract data for reporting and analytics purposes
  • Provide User Management and support for users, manage system access across groups to ensure compliance, and maintain best practices. Create and manage security schemes, custom fields and configurations.
  • Install, manage and administer Jira add-ons, plugins, and extensions
  • Management of other reporting and collaboration in the environment  (Tableau, TargetProcess)
  • Create training material and standard operating procedure documentation.   Create engineering models/blueprints and other supporting diagrams to represent technical and functional system relationships.
  • Emphasizes the use of a disciplined process when creating and implementing designs and operates effectively as part of a team in doing so. Uses patterns and frameworks to develop, support and solve problems for enterprise level applications supported by a team.
  • Actively follows the software and systems development lifecycle and DevOps practices.
  • Automate common operations on critical systems in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to increase the operational stability of the platform.
  • Helps team make tradeoffs between functional requirements, non-functional requirements and constraints

This posting reflects the Engineer II essential functions, qualifications, and physical requirements. The Engineer III has variable essential functions and qualifications. Competency and skill set will determine level of placement within the posted job family.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Jira/Atlassian/DevOps Engineer or equivalent software-engineering role with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Experience administering Jira/Confluence environments with a mixture of on-premises and cloud/data center and migrations between platforms for multiple instances
  • Strategic thinker with ability to translate vision to product features and influence change management with others for implementation
  • Advocate for solution leadership and leveraging Agile ceremonies and practices to drive Agile Release Train (ART) and business delivery
  • Knowledgeable with Java, Groovy, Jira Query Language JQL) and/or Java application development.
  • Able to maintain & write custom scripts good experience with Script runner
  • Experience in SQL/Oracle databases able to query & trouble shoot
  • Experience in network, server, and application-status monitoring.

  • Pay is commensurate with experience
