SUPERVISES: Employer Relations Specialist, Interns and student workers.
SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provides leadership in employer relations and marketing/messaging areas of the Career Center. Responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive employer engagement effort to increase internship and full-time employment opportunities for students and alumni. The incumbent works closely with the Career Center Director, staff and faculty in the colleges and schools to support student interns and experiential learning needs. The incumbent also develops, maintains, and expands relationships with external organizations, alumni, and other stakeholders to expand the quantity and quality of employment and internship opportunities. The incumbent supervises the Employer Relations Specialist in his/her role as an external liaison. The incumbent develops internship preparation programs and workshops to prepare students for internship. Develops policies and procedures and provides administrative oversight and monitoring of student interns. The incumbent recruits, monitors, and evaluates the Community Based Work Study Program and carries a moderate case load of student appointments and drop ins to maintain engagement with the UMass Dartmouth student population.
Follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.
Examples Of Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Develops a comprehensive employer relations strategic plan to include documented metrics for increased student and employer engagement in employment related programs and activities.
- Strategically identifies and builds relationships with state, regional, national, and international employers for recruitment of UMass Dartmouth students and alumni.
- Leads credited and paid internship development and recruitment efforts for UMass Dartmouth student interns in collaboration with all colleges and schools.
- Works with databases of students and employers, including information on paid internships.
- Works with the Admissions Office and the Career Center staff to publicize job and internship and opportunities.
- Oversees marketing, social media, and website.
- Coordinates all intern development activities, including online and face to face pre-placement seminars and workshops.
- Provides oversight and monitoring of student intern placement and progress.
- Plans and delivers learning activities for participating students and interns to facilitate the integration of classroom learning and experiential and internship learning experiences.
- Develops, implements, evaluates and maintains a job shadowing program in collaboration with Associate Director Career Readiness and Engagement.
- Provides quarterly reports of employer relations, recruitment, Community Based Work Study, job shadowing and internship accomplishments.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Career Center.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Education, Communications, Business, Engineering, or related fields.
EXPERIENCE: Significant (over 5 years) experience employer relations, career advising, college recruitment, employer and alumni relations, or marketing.
OTHER: Extensive local and regional travel required. Early morning, evening, and occasional weekend work needed to support engagement with employer, student, and alumni facing events.Experience with and knowledge of computer information management systems and other administrative support tools.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
- Demonstrated interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
- Knowledge of and experience with intern and/or cooperative-type education programs
- Knowledge of and experience with recruitment and placement, and industrial liaison
- Strong relationship building, program management, event planning, problem-solving, marketing, social media and communication skills
- Ability to supervise employees and/or interns
- Must be willing/able to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a college or university career center and/or university relations/HR for a company or organization focused on recruitment and retention of college graduates.
- Extensive experience working with employers, alumni, students, the educational community, and the industrial community
- Excellent communication, social media and problem-solving skills
