Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Assistant to support the US Initiatives team. This position is 6-month, fixed-term, part-time (18 hours per week) position, and is anticipated to run from March 2023 through September 2023.

This position focuses on providing administrative support and is best suited for individuals interested in learning about HRW’s work and contributing to our development and outreach efforts. The Assistant will focus on maintaining the donor database, conducting prospect research, and assisting with donor engagement. This position will report jointly to the US Initiatives Coordinator and US Initiatives Director. The location of this is flexible and can be based in any office in the United States.

Due to Covid-19, many of our global offices are operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely until offices fully re-open. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities:

1. Maintain the donor database by updating US Initiatives donor and prospect records and information;

2. Draft prospect profiles based on research into individual and foundation prospects;

3. Provide support with developing donor engagement tools, including monthly newsletters; and

4. Perform other responsibilities as may be required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is desired. Those currently enrolled in university courses are encouraged to apply.

Experience: One year of relevant work experience is desirable.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English is required.

2. Prior office or administration experience and proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications, especially Excel, are required; experience with Salesforce or other donor databases is highly desirable.

3. Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple global locations are required.

4. Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required.

5. The ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple priorities, working effectively toward deadlines is required.

6. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including donors and external partners are required.

7. Basic skills in graphic design are desirable.

8. Strong interest in or experience with human rights issues is desirable.

Salary: The salary for this position is US $21.15 per hour.
