Sustainability Co-Ordinator – Zero Waste

 

Based at Asda House in Leeds

 

Are you self-driven with a project management background and an interest in driving Asda’s sustainability agenda to reduce, reuse, recycle and redistribute more operational waste and redistribute food surplus?

 

The Asda Sustainability Team are responsible for setting the overall Asda “Better Planet” agenda which operates across four areas: Carbon, Nature, Waste, and Greener Choices. In this role you will report to the Sustainability Senior Manager – Zero Waste, laddering up into the Senior Director -Commercial Sustainability You will directly support our work on delivering the zero waste roadmap, focused on both operational waste and food surplus. You will play a critical role in driving new thinking across the business and building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholder teams, suppliers and partners.

 

Your Role

 

At Asda we have a commitment to reduce food waste by 20% by 2025, have zero operational waste by 2025 and be net zero by 2040. This role will specifically work on the food waste reduction and zero operational waste agenda. It will focus on food surplus redistribution by working with our stores, depots, suppliers, and charity partners. In 2018 we introduced our food surplus store donation process, allowing stores to donate surplus food to selected charities. Since 2018 we have donated over 8million meals through this process. With our commitment to reduce our food waste by 20% by 2025 this is an exciting time to join the team to drive forward this process and play a part in creating and implementing new initiatives and processes.

 

About You

You’ll have a strong project management track record, in a retail or similar fast-paced environment, and a good understanding of managing moving deadlines, multiple project strands, and critical paths.

You’ll have delivered or supported change in a cross functional environment, by inspiring and influencing others beyond your direct reporting line and have the ability to build strong relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders, charities and suppliers.

Previous experience of managing data and creating reporting templates. Utilising data to identify risks and opportunities and to develop new ideas and concepts.

Ability to persevere with significant challenges, finding creative ways to overcome barriers, and bounce back from setbacks.

You’ll enjoy working as a team and be happy flexing between leading your own meetings and developing your own ideas, as well as supporting the team with projects and admin duties.

Sustainability, waste or retail experience would be favourable, but not essential, but you will have a personal passion for the agenda and be willing to learn on the job.
