Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) – the Workers’ Samaritan Federation – is a German aid and welfare organisation, engaged in areas such as civil protection, rescue services and social welfare services. As a non-political and non-denominational organisation, ASB has, since its foundation in 1888, represented continuity and reliability.

Since August 2014, ASB established its own office in Dohuk and recently implemented projects in the sectors health, WASH, protection and livelihood for IDPs, refugees and host communities, valued at € 20 million.

ASB expanded its presence to all governorate of Iraq, in 2017, opening one office in Baghdad and offices in Anbar and Salah ad-Din governorate, increasing the portfolio of its programs to effectively satisfy the immediate needs of thousands of beneficiaries while responding to the developmental plan of the country.

Funded by the German Development Cooperation (BMZ) though GIZ, the objective of the project “Fostering Community Resilience Against COVID 19 for Anbar” (Project No. IRK2106) is to improve the capacity of individuals, households, and rural societies to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from shocks caused by Covid 19 and other disasters.

The incumbent will assist ASB to achieve the project objectives.

Position Title:  ASB Guard PHCC Doulab for project GIZ IRK2106

Reporting Relationships:

The ASB Guard PHCC Dowlab reports to the ASB Project Coordinator Anbar.

Responsibilities & tasks:

Under direct supervision of ASB Project Coordinator Anbar, the incumbent is required to achieve the following tasks:

• Patrol assigned area to ensure the safety and security of ASB’s personnel and assets.
• Remain vigilant throughout duty period, paying specific attention externally to activities and potential suspicious activities.
• Carry out regular patrols of the area to include inspecting physical security measures gates, doors, fences, lighting and barbed wires to ensure they are intact and not tampered with. In addition, also paying particular attention for hazards, such as electrical faults or any other hazard that may be a safety risk, logging and reporting Immediately any faults or irregularities.
• Manage access control of the compound, to deter unauthorized entry into the ASB compound and ensuring quick access for ASB staff. Check the reliable legal identity (ID) of all visitors and log their entry and exit in the Visitors Book. Ensure visitors meet the person whom they are visiting. Maintain a record of all staff and visitors within the compound at any given time.
• React to any potential threats quickly, if necessary securing the compound and staff. Request assistance from the relevant security or law enforcement if necessary and aid in the evacuation of staff if required.
• Ensure that gates and doors are secure at all times, especially at the end of business.
• Receive and screen deliveries of mail/packages and other items. All deliveries shall be logged.
• Ensure proper handover to the replacement guard, maintaining a record/log of all activities: Patrol, handover, incidents, movements.
• Ensure Property is secure
• Management of generator.

• Any other tasks as directed by the ASB Project Coordinator Anbar.

Minimum required knowledge, experience and core competences

• Completion of secondary school is required.
• Should be residing in Doulab and has a valid residency card in Baghdadi. This condition is very important.
• At least one (1) years’ experience as a security guard.
• Surveillance detection skills.
• Previous training in safety and security.
• Stable, moral and robust character and a good team-player.
• Good communication skills, calm with a good sense of humor.
• Proven commitment to accountability practices.
• Fluent in Arabic. A basic level of English is preferred.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Good knowledge of operating and maintaining a range of safety and security equipment, including the use of VHF radios, CCTV system, fire alarms etc.
• Excellent knowledge of safety and security procedures and protocols.
