Job Purpose and Definition

The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is a leading global organisation focused on addressing the root causes of violence through a feminist lens. We are looking for an Accountant to support WILPF’s growing Finance Team with a range of accounting and financial management functions that will help support and maintain WILPF’s operational success.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, is highly organized, and is interested in human rights. They will thrive in a collaborative working environment, which is both co-located and remote. They will be committed to feminist, anti-racist, and inclusive ways of working.

Main responsibilities

  • Review and reconcile advances to WILPF staff, partners and sections, accounts receivable and payable, and make adjustment entries in Business Central (Microsoft Dynamics BC).
  • Reconcile payroll and social charges for 2023 in Business Central (Microsoft Dynamics BC) in the payroll system for WILPF International (Geneva-based) staff. Prepare the adjustment journal entries to record in Business Central.
  • Review and examine bank statements and Petty Cash for reconciliation with general ledger entries.
  • Review fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
  • Review deferred income against WILPF revenue recognition policy and make adjusting entries, as required.
  • Responsible for month-end and year-end closing.
  • Filing and remitting taxes and other financial obligations.
  • Assist Head of Finance for year-end audit and specific donor audits.
  • Perform internal controls, solve errors, and share best practices with WILPF’s Finance Team.
  • Assist in process improvement and systems enhancement initiatives for WILPF’s Finance Team and operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Demonstrated experience with accounting practices and standards. Experience working in an international NGO a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a bookkeeping system, specifically with reconciliation of financial data software, preferably Microsoft 365 Dynamics (Business Central).
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. French is an added advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, especially Excel).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail skills.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills. Ability to track and maintain a variety of projects and activities simultaneously, while meeting quick deadlines during busy times.
  • Ability to establish priorities and to multi-task.
  • Experience working with a global, diverse team across time zones and locations, both co-located and remote.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate, work well in a team setting, and to build strong and genuine interpersonal relationships across the organization.
  • Dedication to and interest in WILPF’s work, aims and principles.

Education and Experience

  • 5-7 years of accounting and financial management experience.
  • Qualification/certificate in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration or equivalent.
  • Prior NGO experience is a plus.

Compensation

WILPF will provide the Accountant with compensation commensurate with experience.

The monthly salary for the position at 100% work rate is 6,250 CHF.

Please note that this is a short-term position for 3-months. Extension of the position may occur depending on organization need and resource availability.

Location

This position is based in Geneva. Only candidates from Switzerland, from an EU/EFTA country, or candidates already having a valid Swiss working permit will be considered as we do not have the possibility to obtain a work permit for non-EU/EFTA candidates. Only candidates with work authorization in Switzerland will be considered.
