Accountant

Summary:

We are currently looking for an experienced, full-cycle accountant, preferably with non-profit experience, to manage all day-to-day accounting functions, while supporting the Finance Director with financial reporting, special projects, and the continuous improvement process. Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable and Receivable

  • Full-cycle Accounts Payable, including invoice processing, vendor payments, reconciliation of AP ledger
  • Full-cycle Accounts Receivable, including invoicing, processing payments, reconciling AR ledger, reporting on outstanding invoices and incoming payments
  • Review and process employee expense reimbursements and monthly credit card reports, while agreeing amounts to corresponding receipts
  • Ensure proper authorization and accurate coding of AP/AR invoices and expense reports, and assist staff with invoice coding and preparing cheque requisitions
  • Maintain vendor / donor information and keep all accounting forms up to date

Project Accounting

  • Assists the Program Managers in the development and administration of their budgets and provides the Program Managers with regular monthly reports
  • Monitors program expenditures against budget, contracts and contribution agreements and alerts Program Managers, Programs Director and Finance Director of potential variances
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly expense claims to funders by required deadlines

Reporting and Revenue Reconciliation

  • Collaborate with Finance Donor Services Team to reconcile online and offline revenue to Raiser’s Edge NXT and Laminate Online
  • Prepare deferred cost reports and maintain and reconcile deferred revenue accounts
  • Prepare and file GST rebate claims
  • Assist with annual budget and quarterly forecasts preparation
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested by Finance Director

Month-end and year-end support

  • Draft and post General Journal entries
  • Perform bank and GL accounts reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Maintain prepaid and fixed asset schedules
  • Assist Finance Director with month-end and year-end activities and working papers preparation
  • Maintain organized electronic filing system
  • Work in collaboration with the rest of the Finance Team at year-end audit by preparing working papers and compiling backup documents requested during audit fieldwork

Other Tasks

  • Maintain the general accounting mailbox by responding to internal and external inquiries
  • Assist Finance Director with the ongoing development of accounting processes and contribute to continuous improvement process
  • Provide input during department’s goal setting process
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned by Finance Director

Qualification, Skills &Experiences:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting / Finance or related combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of recent related experience in full-cycle accounting
  • Experience in non-for-profit sector accounting is preferred
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, ability to manipulate large volume of data
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, experience with Sage Intacct considered an asset
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding time-management skills; ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Solid technical expertise and ability to master new software quickly
  • Demonstrated aptitude in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Professional and proactive approach to work, ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Upbeat and positive attitude with a passion to drive and support continuous improvement process
  • Experience in implementing new systems an asset
