2023 Environmental Intern

Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking a 2023 Environmental Intern for our facility located in Wheatland, PA. This person will assist and provide support to the Zekelman Environmental Manager. The intern will learn the essential duties of operating an industrial wastewater treatment plant as well as maintain proper tank concentrations for the Galvanizing department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Clean and calibration of pH probes
• Monitor raw chemical inventories
• Flow and pH recordings
• Cleaning and running of filter press
• Monitoring of treatment plant throughout the day
• Monitor chemical usage and make adjustments to maintain effluent water quality
• Schedules and prepares necessary paperwork for haz and non-haz. waste removal
• Collect and package universal wastes
• Records daily discharge from treatment plant, river water intake and sewage discharge
• Sample collection (Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly)
• General housekeeping and cleaning of treatment plant
• Trouble shoot and solve various problems as they come up throughout the daily operation of the plant
• Maintain an orderly and clean wastewater treatment facility
• Special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma
• Current College student pursuing Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or engineering.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficient computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets)
• Flexible schedule and ability to work extra hours as needed—weekends as needed
• Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is an essential function of this role
• Lead and promote health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy
