Position Summary
Population Health and Wellness, Office of the Chief Medical Officer.
This position will support the development of two First Nations health status reports: the First Nations Population Health and Wellness Agenda (PHWA) and the Indigenous Women’s Health Report (IWHR). The PHWA expands on the original 7 Transformative Change Accord indicators monitored for the past 10 years, and establishes a more holistic, expanded suite of indicators that reflect a more strengths-based, two-eyed seeing approach, and includes the First Nations Perspective of Wellness. The PHWA reflects another step forward in advancing how First Nations health and wellness is monitored, and reported on in BC. The IWHR is a special report on the health and wellness of Indigenous women and girls living in BC.
This position will also support the related work of the ‘We Walk Together’ research project which is working with 5 regions across BC to explore the connections between land, territory and health to help inform the PHWA.
Responsibilities
- Supporting community-based research including, planning, logistics and coordination.
- Conducting literature reviews, maintaining citation libraries, sourcing First Nations stories.
- Supporting qualitative data analysis, research report writing, and contributing to academic publications.
- Supporting the development of knowledge exchange products including video tools, infographics and website content.
- Other responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in the social sciences (health, First Nations studies, political science), in addition to ongoing study in a Masters-level program.
- Previous experience in a First Nations health organization an asset, but not required.
- Experience in qualitative research and research coordination is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Strong writing, literature review and qualitative research skills.
- Strong communication skills both oral and written.
