Background

iMMAP maintains a global surge roster of rapidly deployable technical role profiles in the field of information management and other technical thematic areas, through which iMMAP provides surge capacity support to emergency operations and development programmes, through various Surge Tools, such as the Standby Partnership Programme.

The iMMAP Global Surge Communications Officer will work under the direct supervision of the iMMAP Global Partnerships and Surge Coordinator. The incumbent will be responsible for leading and implementing all communications, advocacy and visibility activities, for the Global Surge Team.

The iMMAP Global Surge Communications Officer will work under the responsibility and management of the Global Surge Team and will ensure close coordination with the Global Communications Unit at iMMAP, and will be actively involved in the iMMAP Communications Task Force.

Description of Duties

➢ Gather written and visual content, develop, and share the Global Surge newsletter, manage the contact list for these newsletters,

➢ Develop social media posts regarding the global surge team and iMMAP deployees to be shared on the iMMAP social media accounts,

➢ Update factsheets, reports and global surge section of the website on a need basis,

➢ Ensure all outputs such as reports, templates and visibility items for the global surge team adheres to internal communication guidelines and branding.

➢ Provide inputs for the annual report for the Global Surge section,

➢ Provide training sessions and in-house support on the implementation of internal communication guidelines and iMMAP branding,

➢ Actively coordinate and engage with the Global Communication Unit and the Communications Task Force (CTF), attend all meetings, workshops, and provide updates on communication activities,

➢ Write precise and compelling articles and success stories regarding surge deployments and the surge progamme overall,

➢ Make a SWOT analysis of iMMAP´s social media platforms and develop a social media action plan,

➢ Work directly with the Global Communications Unit on the coordinating the inputs, reviewing, editing, scheduling updates for the social media platforms including YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook,

➢ Acting community manager of the social media platforms by responding to messages, responses while assigning messages to relevant CTF members,

➢ Regularly monitor current trends to make compelling social media posts with polls, live stories, quizzes, reels, GIFs, videos etc.

➢ Coordinate the development and share regular social media campaigns with target audiences while developing effective messaging for key humanitarian days and sudden onset events,

➢Review social media algorithms and suggest changes on the communication style on social media accordingly,

➢ Regularly monitor analytics for social media platforms to increase engagement and followers on social media platforms,

➢ Undertake any other communications activities as assigned and agreed by the hiring manager and the global Communications and Outreach Manager at iMMAP.

Requirements

➢ Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field from a recognized institution,

➢ At least three years of professional experience, prior experience working with development or humanitarian organizations is a plus,

➢ Prior experience of social media platform management for organizations is a must with knowledge of other social media tools such as Hashtag generator, social media management platforms such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social etc.,

➢ Good graphic design, video and photography and editing skills,

➢ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint,

➢ Good command of Adobe Creative software packages, particularly Illustrator, InDesign and Lightroom,

➢ Professional working proficiency (verbal and written) in English, another UN language would be a plus,

➢ The ability to appropriately communicate (verbal, written, and visual) information to technical and non-technical people,

➢ Well-organized with high attention to detail and strong coordination skills,

➢ Strategic and creative mindset,

➢ Very good understanding and usage of social media platforms.

Working Conditions:

  • Consultant’s fees scale: $ 4,500 USD – $ 6,500 USD.
