Since then, the organisation has expanded its program scope and scale to make the greatest possible contribution to meeting humanitarian needs in Turkey and North West Syria. Welthungerhilfe has field offices in Azaz and Afrin, as well as Ankara, Istanbul, Hatay and Mardin. The Syria Response program includes food security, WASH services, Shelter and NFI services, protection, early recovery and livelihood.

The position is to be filled by September 11, 2022. Two Outreach Worker will be based in Azaz Office. Two Outreach Worker will be based in Afrin Office. The position is paid according to SG4 [[paygrade]]

Reporting directly to Project Officer (Protection) and Head of Project based in Gaziantep, the OWs are responsible for all community outreach and prevention activities including the delivery of awareness-raising/key protection messages to the affected population as well as the establishment, capacity building and supervision of community-based protection committees.

Your responsibilities

• Provision of life-saving information related to safety, PSEA, and available humanitarian services, eligibility, and where to access these services. • Reciept and record of and response to concerns, feedback and suggestions from the community • Provision of psychological first aid and linking of vulnerable families to available services such as water, sanitation, health, shelter, food, livelihoods and formal education • Provision of community awareness raising on protection issues such as exploitation, to increase prevention and adequate response • As part of the mobile protection desk, identification of vulnerable or at-risk clients, including child protection, GBV or general protection concerns, and referral to case management officer for specialized case management services • Undertake outreach and community engagement activities, community meetings and informative sessions on Welthungerhilfe’s services to target groups and record feedback (comments, suggestions) • Advise and assist beneficiaries about Welthungerhilfe’s services and schedules upon completion of relevant forms/needs assessments • Ensures that women, men, girls and boys of all ages and diverse backgrounds are regarded and engaged as active partners in all aspects of the project and encourage and facilitate meaningful participation of beneficiaries in the planning, execution, and evaluation of activities • Ensure adherence to internationally recognized protection standards, and relevant international and local regulations. • Proactively apply the UNHCR’s SOP on “Protection Desks for IDP sites in North-West Syria” and WHH’s internal SOP on “Community-based Protection” • Under the close supervision provided by Project Officer (Protection), lead the establishment/formulation, capacity building and supervision of community-based protection committtees which are consisted of trusted community members representing the diversity of the community and are sensitized to support marginalized people without discrimination. • Carry out Knowledge, Attitude, Practice and Belief (KAPB) baseline and endline surveys targeting community-based protection committee members to determine the type of capacity building training program to be delivered to enhance the skills, knowledge and resilience of affected population • Ensure the guiding principles of humanity, impartiality, do no harm, confidentiality and sensitivity. • Being fully informed about community structures and the protection and security situation of the population of concern and develop strong links with a cross-section of members of refugee using an AGD approach. • Through relationships with affected population and network of partners stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on the protection environment. • Report all incidents in the field to the Project Officer (Protection) promptly. • Undertaking other project tasks as required. • The OW is expected to lead and support all efforts toward accountability to affected population, specifically to the clients and to Welthungerhilfe’s Policies Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). • The OW must ensure all interventions adhere to Welthungerhilfe’s’ Gender Policy, Do No Harm principles, and AAP standards. • Uphold and promote Welthungerhilfe’s commitment to ensuring the safeguarding and safety of the vulnerable communities we serve. • Behaving in mutual respect to other team members as part of work friendly environment

Your profile

  • Position open to Syrian nationals only

  • Education: University degree preferred, in International Development, Cultural Studies, Human Rights, Social Work, Social Science, Political Science, Anthropology, Law or other clearly related disciplines.*

  • Work Experience: Minimum two-years professional experience in a similar position, specifically protection, community services, social work, and human rights, preferably in a non-profit organization*

  • Skills/knowledge:

  • Experience in delivery of community based protection activities at field level.*

  • Experience in delivery of awareness raising and protection outreach activities.*

  • Experience in delivery of psychological first aid.

  • Experience in facilitating and reporting community meetings and focus group discussions. *

  • Experience in using mobile data collection tools, and/or other smartphone applications*

  • Excellent written and spoken Arabic.*

  • Experience working in insecure and remote locations and reporting to remotely located management

  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,*

  • Ability to summarize disparate information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

  • Being able to travel.

  • Flexibility, proactivity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn from others.

  • Good level of knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.*

  • Proven analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills.

    • Social Skills;
  • Ability to work in a team.

    • Language Skills:

      • Fluency in Arabic is required. *
      • Working knowledge of English is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Local Context: Candidates who have work experience and knowledge of the local context in A’zaz and/or Afrin are preferred.

  • The OW will be obliged to maintain confidentiality regarding all information obtained in the course of his/her work during the employment at Welthungerhilfe and thereafter.
