INTRODUCTION & BACKGROUND
Young people in the Middle East and North Africa ( region want to be active and influential members of a society that rarely includes them. 83 million adolescents live in MENA. Together with the MENA’s older cohort of youth, they constitute a large and diverse demographic of young people making

MENA one of the most youthful populations in the world. Around 35 percent of the population is between 10 and 24 years old, and 60 percent is below the age of 30. The numbers of adolescents and youth in MENA are projected to reach 152 million in 2030 and 158 million in 2050. Young people in MENA is standing at the crossroads of major changes in their countries. Supporting young people, especially the most marginalized, is vital. Legal frameworks, institutions, and policies, as well as the wider society, have to adjust in order to give young people a greater voice in shaping better policy outcomes and society at large. This 4 year-long program (20 21 202 5 funded by DANIDA recognizes young people’s agency and is committed to support them by removing the systematic barriers to their meaningful participation. The overall objective of the programme is that young people are listened to and have equitable choices in a protective environment realized through strengthened civil society actors and regional platforms. Through this regional programme, Save the Children is committed to reaching out to the most marginalized groups of young people and to partner with the hard-to-reach in order to amplify their voices, to protect and support their participation in influencing key policies that affect their lives.

The programme is managed through Save the Children regional office in coordination with Save the Children’s Country Offices. The programme is currently operating in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and Yemen, and at regional level, through partnership with youth led and youth focused partners.

ROLE PURPOSE
The Youth Officer ( will ensure the effective technical and operational support and coordination of the regional DANIDA funded project “Al Bawsala” to strengthen civil society actors to promote young people’s voice and participation at local and regional level s This is a multi location, multi sector programme with a focus on youth and civil society strengthening. The program is regional in nature, and is implemented both directly and with local partners. The YO will ensure day to day coordination and facilitation of different activities in coordination with the regional and country office and will contribute to the achievement of project results in addition to maintaining an overview of implementation and
national partnerships The YO will work closely with SC country offices, partners, civil society actors
( and youth groups.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING

Level3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e. once a week or more) or intensively (e. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Responsible for overseeing the designing and implementing, and/or maintaining activities that reflect the needs and interests of the youth and civil society actors ( in Jordan
  • Responsible for the day to day coordination of the country interventions and activities
  • Work closely with youth groups, CSAs, Country Offices, partners in all components of the program.
  • Guide the youth groups and program partners, which includes directing assistants and volunteers in duties specific to the program.
  • Engage in determining the gaps in delivery and recommend strategies for improvement.
  • Closely coordinate with country and regional offices to create a monthly program calendar, including daily schedule and special events.
  • Plan field trips and special events for the Youth program according to measurable objectives outlined, track spending, and complete event evaluations.
  • Establish and coordinate communication channels between multiple people or organizations.
  • Engage and participate in creating the budget for programs in consultation with the Program Manager
  • Participate in the assessment of program objectives, including data collection, record keeping and reporting for grants
  • Coordinate and support a capacity strengthening program for youth groups and CSAs, including
  • participatory action research and other research methodologies.
  • Reach out to, establish and sustain links with youth led CSAs and youth groups in Jordan
  • Support the participation and engagement of young people and youth groups in local, national and regional platforms.

Skills Required

  • Have a strong background in youth empowerment and civic engagement.
  • Previous experience working with young people and civil society organizations in the region.
  • String t raining and facilitation skills.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring youth groups.
  • Good understanding of the regional and national context in the Arab region and the
  • challenges facing young people.
  • Capacity to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Have strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage his or her time well.
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Be comfortable working directly with young people.
  • Possess excellent written oral, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and listening skills.
  • Have in depth knowledge and understanding of the economic, cultural and political environment in Jordan
  • Have excellent analytical skills.**Education:**
    Diploma or graduate degree in social work, political science, international relations, education or any other field relevant to this position
