Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches and shares God’s love and compassion for all in the name of Christ by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice. In Kenya, MCC supports projects with local partner organizations in food security, health, education, and peacebuilding. The MCC Kenya office is in Westlands, Nairobi.

MCC Kenya seeks an energetic and self-motivated person with excellent people skills to coordinate its young adult international exchange program.

Responsibilities

Manage MCC Kenya’s young adult (22-30 years old) exchange program, which each year hosts four international participants in Kenya and sends six Kenyans and Tanzanians to international locations:

  • Explore potential assignments, select host families, review job descriptions, review applications, and select candidates
  • Mentor and provide support for the participants living in Kenya and stay connected with those leaving Kenya and Tanzania for other countries
  • Provide orientation and learning support for participants including organizing language study, intentional learning activities, and relationship-building amongst participants
  • Process immigration and visa requirements
  • Facilitate the interaction of Kenyan/Tanzanian alumni of the MCC young adult exchange programs.
  • Organize learning tours and staff visits from MCC global as needed

Program support

  • Accompany an MCC Kenya partner receiving project grant
  • Maintain MCC Kenya’s project and program database
  • Support MCC Kenya staff and partners as they implement safeguarding requirements
  • Participate in MCC meetings, conferences, and events, including weekly team devotions
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Community Development, Project Management, International Relations, Education or related degree
  • At least five years relevant experience, preferably in an NGO
  • Excellent people skills, including the ability to mentor young adults with wisdom and empathy
  • Cross-cultural experience (either in Kenya or outside of Kenya)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • English and Kiswahili fluency both written and spoken
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Legal right to work in Kenya
