Job Overview: The Women’s Economic Empowerment Specialist will support the Sacramento office’s Safety & Wellness Program and Economic Empowerment team as a specialized employment position for women escaping experiences of violence. The Women’s Economic Empowerment Specialist will provide culturally appropriate employment assistance to refugee and immigrant victims of crime, with a focus on women escaping crime and domestic violence. Specifically, this position will work to address the barriers faced by female survivors of crime in financial literacy, early employment, and establishing self-sufficiency. This position will also assist in programming within the Sacramento office aimed at strengthening women’s integration and empowerment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial literacy, job readiness training, budgeting, resume development, one-on-one career coaching, and job placement assistance, to female refugee victims of crime;
  • Coordinate with Client Advocates to establish an integrated service delivery model, incorporate employment services and goals within clients’ individualized service plans, and provide wrap-around services to clients;
  • Work with Economic Empowerment and Health and Gender teams to develop and implement employment-focused curriculum that addresses barriers faced by female victims of crime;
  • Provide one-on-one financial coaching towards individuals’ financial goals including opening a bank account, establishing credit, sustaining a budget, and recovering from financial abuse;
  • Develop partnerships with subsidized child care providers, language services, and resources for transportation;
  • Administer Bridge to Safety screener for newly arrived, adult female refugee clients;
  • Conduct post-placement case management to support ongoing employment, financial independence and eventual economic mobility;

· Assist in planning and implementation of women’s education and empowerment activities including, but not limited to, women’s wellness classes, women’s specific job readiness training classes;

· Ensure accurate case notes and tracking of services, placements, and outcomes;

· Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engages as a member of the team;

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: The Women’s Economic Empowerment Specialist will work as a member of both the Economic Empowerment and Health and Gender teams. This position will also will develop working relationships with Client Advocates and Employment Specialists and collaborate with internal programming to support achievement of program goals.

External: The Women’s Economic Empowerment Specialist will develop working relationships and support referrals systems with community service providers including child care providers, language services, transportation services, and crime victim services.

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree with an emphasis in Social Work, Public Health, International Studies or an equivalent field of study required. Graduate degree preferred;

· 2+ years of relevant professional experience required. Case management or experience serving refugee populations preferred;

· Demonstrated experience with the US job search process and ability to effectively coach clients through the nuanced process of securing employment;

· Excellent communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English. Multi-lingual candidates preferred;

· Previous multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds strongly preferred;

· Thorough knowledge and comfort supporting others in crisis situations an asset;

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations required;

· Strong computer skills, particularly Word and Excel required. Prior experience using data and tracking systems strongly preferred;

· Attention to detail and ability to organize and track large amounts of information efficiently and accurately.

· Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across all of IRC’s programs;

· Highly motivated with an ability to work independently, develop new classes and programming, and be a self-starter, maintaining responsibility for multiple tasks.

· Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area

Working Environment:

· Standard office work environment coupled with regular travel in and around the service delivery area.

· Reoccurring need to provide services outside of traditional work hours (evenings and weekends).
