Make-A-Wish® UK

As the whole organisation and Wishes, Communities and People directorate in particular is going through a period of continuous change, Make-A-Wish UK is looking for a Wishes, Communities and People Team Co-Ordinator who will play an important role in helping colleagues across the directorate be more effective and stay focused on strategic priorities of the organisation.

Right now, over 60,000* children in the UK are eligible for a wish because they have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, a diagnosis that changes their lives and the lives of their families forever.

The power of a wish revives a childhood stolen by critical illness. It brings light and joy to children and their loved ones, with a profound and lasting impact on all their lives.

However, granting wishes takes a community of volunteers, local supporters, skills and donations to help children feel like children again. So, we’re looking for people like you to help.

Make-A-Wish is an inspiring place to work as we’re immersed in the magical world of children’s imaginations! You will be joining us at an exciting time as we launch our ambitious new strategy which will, ultimately, enable us to reach more children and young people with a wish.

About the role

This role will support different teams across Wishes, Communities and People directorate and will ensure that various administrative tasks are executed in a timely manner and in a way that aligns with Make-A-Wish values – Be Magical, Be Inspiring and Be Inclusive. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing administrative support on variety of projects to the leads across the directorate and to the Director of Wishes, Communities and People
  • Respond to general enquiries from members of the public and Make-A-Wish stakeholders, e.g. volunteers over the phone and via email.
  • Provide administrative support for organisation-wide training and wishes attended by multiple families at a time

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to:

  • Enjoy working in a support role that helps others deliver their objectives
  • Have experience or be able to work with various administrative processes
  • Be willing to support and help colleagues during difficult or busy periods and build workplace relationships on mutual trust and support

For a full list of responsibilities and skills required for the role, please refer to the job description found on our website.

We’re a flexible organisation that promotes agile working and had the technology in place for employees to work from home before the pandemic. We also work out of accessible, bright, airy offices directly opposite Reading train and bus stations.

*The report “Estimating Current and Future Prevalence of Children and Young People who would be eligible for the Make-A-Wish Foundation” was published in November 2020 with research by Deborah Gibson-Smith, Stuart Jarvis & Lorna Fraser from the Department of Health Sciences, University of York & by Paul Norman from the School of Geography, University of Leeds.

Make-A-Wish UK is a rewarding place to work, every day you will be helping to make a difference granting life-changing wishes to seriously ill children.

The organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS check will be requested where required. Employment is subject to positive references and proof of the right to work in the UK.

Make-A-Wish is also committed to attracting and recruiting diverse people as it’s vital that we strive towards ensuring that our trustees, employees, ambassadors and volunteers reflect the communities we seek to serve.
