Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

Within the assigned unit and delegated authority, the database associate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Support the development of databases and tools for the data needs of the country office and field offices and adhere to the best practices of database development standards.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports from the database to the units.
  • Contribute to the documentation of the current and future database systems.
  • Assist in migrating the data from the current database to the corporate system and vice versa.
  • Based on the information/reports received from the different units and sources, prepare reports to be sent to other units/sub-offices and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the design of database models and schemas to support data storage and retrieval.
  • Contribute to the plan and deliver continuous improvement to data integration solutions, through the application of data management best practices in combination with data technology.
  • Develop and improve ETLs
  • Apply data sanity checks and deduplication on the database to ensure data quality.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering.
  • Optimize data processing pipelines for performance and scalability

MinimumQualifications:

Education: Completion of high school degree. Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field is preferable.

Experience: At least four (4) years in database management, data engineering, software development or any related work.

Language: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic.

Desired Experiences for entry into the role:

  • An understanding of UN systems, experience with database development using SQL Server, and familiarity with data manipulation using SQL are desired.
  • Experience writing data manipulation scripts in Python is a plus.
  • The ability to contribute to data design as part of a team and experience with git-flow is preferred.
