Background

The Global Survivors Fund (“GSF”) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize laureates 2018.
As a recently founded organisation, GSF has set up as a priority the need to increase awareness of its existence and work towards its main target audiences (survivors, international and local partners, donors, states, and the international community as well as the general public).
Role Summary
The GSF is looking for a Webmaster and Social Media Officer for a 2-year contract, with possible extension. Their role will be to support the implementation of the Communications Strategy pertaining to both institutional and programmes-based activities. The Webmaster and Social Media Officer reports to the Head of Communications.
In particular, the Webmaster and Social Media Officer’s main tasks will be to devise and implement social media strategies to widen GSF’s reach, engage and motivate audiences and liaise with supporters to increase traffic on GSF various platforms; to create social media and website content such as posts, videos, audio podcasts, blogs etc.; and to design, develop and support public facing websites and applications.

Position Responsibilities

Social Media

• Through social media marketing strategies, build recognition for our brand identity and credibility for the mission;• Increase GSF visibility on social media (Twitter, Facebook,) and maintain a daily presence;
• Plan and implement digital campaigns to engage, inform and motivate audiences;
• Develop GSF accounts on other platforms where necessary (LinkedIn, Instagram);
• Develop GSF’s Flickr account and use in its written and online communications;
• Monitor performance of our social media platforms (with e.g., Social Bakers or Hootsuite) and provide recommendations.

Website

• Plan, organise, update and maintain GSF’s website so that it is functional, user-friendly, visually pleasing and up-to-date;
• Maintain, convert and optimise documents for public, online use;
• Track, analyse and report on web and social media traffic statistics/performance metrics and review of content effectiveness, in order to identify trends and suggest insights on areas for improvement;
• Keep up-to-date with new, rapidly changing internet technologies and recommend possible improvements to GSF’s web and social media presence.

Content Creation

• Contribute to drafting, editing and formatting content for communications purposes (summary of reports on conflict-related sexual violence, updates for Board meetings, articles and newsletters etc.);
• Monitor news on topics related to conflict-related sexual violence;
• Contribute to formulating ideas on the communications aspects of GSF-led events;
• Contribute to launching GSF newsletter (e.g., through Mailchimp);
• Ensure that all content, graphics, photos, videos, etc. align with GSF’s mission, values and data protection policy;
• Adhere in all circumstances to GSF’s internal policies and procedures in particular the strict application of GSF’s data protection policy.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

• A Master’s degree is necessary.
• A degree in communications, marketing, computer science or a related field is preferred.
• A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in community management is necessary, including on the design and implementation of social media campaigns.
• Proven working experience of website management tools, analytics, SEO skills, design as well as good communication skills are indispensable.
• Knowledge of IT security.
• Online marketing competences.
• Proficiency on Canva/Trello and other relevant tools.
• Proficiency on MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
• Video editing skills, graphic design experience as well as familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and databases will be considered as an asset.

• Ability to design and implement a social media strategy aligned with GSF’s role and mission, as well as with its programmes and milestones
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong competencies in research, analysis, drafting and editing
• Ability to identify priorities, work autonomously and as a proactive member of a team
• Attention to details
• Ability to work under tight deadlines
• Strong work ethics, eagerness to learn and take initiatives.
• Interest in a wide range of topics ranging from human rights issues, including gender, women’s and victims’ rights, to transitional justice, conflict-related sexual violence, survivor-centric approach, reparations, and other forms of redress.
• Full proficiency in English. Proficiency in French and Arabic is an asset.
