Title: Web Editor Coordinator

Duty Station: Copenhagen, Denmark

Duration: 01 September to 31 December 2022 (with possibility of extension)

Contract Type: UNOPS International Specialist, Level IICA 1 (P2 equivalent or Local Specialist Level LICA-9)

Organisational context

The contractor will operate within the Digital Service (DS), which sits in the Division of External Relations (DER).

The Digital Service advises on, creates and delivers digital strategies and solutions for engaging with UNHCR’s primary audiences, including the public, partners, governments, refugees and staff. As part of its responsibilities, DS oversees UNHCR’s global web presence, partnering with the Global Communication Service (GCS) and other stakeholders within the organization to ensure that website strategy delivers effectively on the organization’s communications goals.

In 2021, in order to optimize UNHCR’s web presence, DS initiated a multi-year project to migrate a large number of websites to a common, Drupal-based content management platform. The project is currently in the development phase, with UNHCR’s 70+ global, regional and country sites scheduled to undergo a phased migration to the new platform starting in Autumn of 2022.

The content on these websites is managed by a diverse network of web editors at UNHCR’s country, regional and global offices. As part of the migration, DS will be delivering a comprehensive training, capacity-building and support programme for web editors to manage their transition from the current web content management platforms to the new Drupal-based one.

Within this context, the Web Editor Coordinator will be responsible for providing training, guidance and support to the web editor network as they make this transition.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Digital Strategy and Planning Officer, the Web Editor Coordinator will coordinate communications, training and support to the global network of Web Editors in relation to the management of their websites. More specifically, the responsibilities of this position will include:

Under the Web Presence project:

  • Develop materials to train web editors on the use of the new Drupal-based CMS. These will include both in-person and virtual trainings, as well as e-learning modules.
  • Organize and deliver trainings in alignment with project calendar
  • Coordinate overall support provided to web editors by the project team
  • Manage communications and information provision to web editors in relation to the project.

Business as usual:

  • Manage incoming requests for support and guidance on the full range of UNHCR’s web CMS platforms
  • Monitor evolving web editor needs and coordinate with Digital Service units on solutions to address them
  • Monitor and make recommendations for optimizing the performance of country, regional and global websites
  • Manage communications and information provision by the Digital Service to web editors
  • Manage the Web Editors Community on SharePoint

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required

a. Education (Level and area of required and/or preferred education)

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s level or equivalent in Marketing, Communications, International Relations, or other related field.

b. Work Experience

Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with Bachelors degree; or 2 years relevant experience with Masters degree; or 1 year relevant experience with Doctorate (PhD).

Demonstrable experience in the following would be an asset:

  • Using WordPress and/or Drupal to publish web content
  • Monitoring and analyzing web content performance
  • Providing training and support on web content management
  • Experience managing web content for UNHCR

c. Key Competencies

Required:

  • High level of familiarity with the use of content management systems for publishing web content
  • Proven competency in planning and preparing content for publication on websites
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in web publishing
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics or other web analytics tools
  • Familiarity with HTML.
  • Proven ability to provide training on the use of digital tools as well as digital best practice
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with using WordPress and/or Drupal for publishing web content
  • Knowledge of SEO and accessibility best practices
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
  • Good working knowledge of Arabic, French or Spanish.

Location

The role will be based in UNHCR Copenhagen, Denmark.

Conditions

This position is initially up to the end of the year with possibility of extension. It is a full-time role, 40 hours per week.
