Feed the Children

Job Purpose

The WASH Technician will be responsible for providing support on the hardware components and software of the WASH component including supporting construction and drilling/rehabilitation of boreholes especially in the areas of day-to-day supervision of field works to ensure contractors deliver quality infrastructure works. The WASH technician will also be responsible for improving household sanitation infrastructures through sanitation marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the implementation of WASH needs assessments and assessment of WASH facilities to be rehabilitated and / or build in the project, through household level questionnaires, focus group discussions, visits to communities.
  • Build capacity of communities in water management and associated WASH topics
  • Ensure community mobilization in targeted communities on the issues related to WASH
  • Provide supervision of borehole drilling and rehabilitation
  • Ensure that WASH infrastructure construction and rehabilitation works are carried out according to quality standards established by Feed the Children and the Donor requirements through quality checklists.
  • Monthly reporting of data to follow up the standard project and strategic indicators
  • Work with other team members of Feed the Children (WASH and non-WASH) working in the same communities, to ensure the integration and complementarity of the different sectors of the intervention.
  • Ensure the integration of aspects related to gender, child protection, HIV, environment, and other crosscutting issues to the implementation of WASH activities, and ensure that activities consider the needs of specific groups and individuals, especially children, elderly, and disabled people

Required Qualifications, knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Diploma in Environmental health, Public health or any other related field
  • Previous relevant experience in implementing WASH interventions
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures.
  • Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing high workload and multiple tasks in a high paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Capacity of proactively identifying and addressing issues.
  • Demonstrated ability in community mobilization and community-level dialogue
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
