The Austrian Red Cross (AutRC) is looking for an experienced and highly motivated WASH/Shelter Delegate. The delegate is implementing assistance projects to conflict affected people in Ukraine and host communities.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the implementation of assistance projects for temporary shelters in the areas of WASH, and for the development of long-term programmes in this sector together with the local Ukraine Red Cross Society (URCS) branches and in coordination with relevant authorities
- Manage WASH / shelter projects in Western Ukraine, including the conduction of assessments in temporary shelters/collective centers, organization of procurement of needed WASH and shelter items as well as coordination of the delivery with the supplier and local Red Cross structures
- Identify self-responsibly potential further fields of assistance, organizing data management around assessments/documentation/reporting including mobile data collection, planning travel logistics and ensuring security regulations are followed
- Plan and possibly implement long-term assistance programmes for temporary and permanent shelter options as well as sustainable solutions for WASH related needs
- Enable close coordination with other Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners, local authorities and other organizations to ensure effective assistance
- Ensure proper management in terms of finances, reporting, efficiency, and timeliness of assistance
- Assist the local URCS branches to develop HR and systems to conduct the project tasks
- Mainstream protection and accountability principles across all activities
Your profile
- At least 3 years’ experience in international humanitarian and/or development programming (NGO, IO or Charity)
- Diploma or degree in civil engineering, humanitarian work or other equivalent training
- Comprehensive and practical knowledge and skills in conducting WASH and/or shelter activities
- Experience in a Red Cross and Red Crescent National Society, IFRC or ICRC is a strong asset
- Ability to work under pressure in a demanding security environment
- Decision-making and team-working capacities, flexibility to work from different locations in Ukraine
- Project and finance management skills (including budgeting and budget control)
- Very good English skills, Ukrainian, Russian and German skills are a strong asset
- Strongly motivated by humanitarian and development work, and high sensitivity to diversity

- Start of employment: as soon as possible
- Duration: preferred 1 year, with option to extend, at least 4 months
- Working time: full-time
- Compensation: depends on qualifications and experience, minimum monthly all-in salary of € 3.600,00 gross
