Welthungerhilfe has field offices in Azaz, Afrin Idleb, as well as Ankara, Istanbul, Hatay and Mardin. The Syria Response program includes food security, WASH services, Shelter and NFI services, protection, early recovery and livelihood.

WASH and shelter Team Leader*

in Dana (Harim)

The position is to be filled by January 1, 2024, Employment/Service location will be Dana (Harim), Syria. The position is paid according to SG4.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Project, Senior Project Officer in the Gaziantep office and the Field Coordinator in Dana office. The field worker works closely with IDPs and host communities. The WASH & SHELTER Team Leader ensures accountability by functional and effective feedback mechanisms. The project aims to support the internally displaced persons and host communities with Wash & sheltert activities in/off camps to support the targeted households

Your responsibilities

The tasks of the WASH & shelter Team Leader shall be:

  • Performs Wash & Shelter activities according to WHH’s guidelines, project workplans and field coordinators guidance. Performs Wash & Shelter activities according to WHH’s guidelines, project workplans and field coordinators guidance.
  • Conduct thorough needs assessments for water, sanitation, hygiene, and shelter in target areas.
  • Follow up the implementation of activities, ensuring adherence to project goals and standardsPerforms CFW activities and participates in the selection of the workers under the field engineer supervision and the supervisors.
  • Ensures that assigned activity is implemented successfully and in a timely manner.. Monitoring the partner implementation and providing field visits reports.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports.
  • Conduct technical visits to the targeted locations .
  • Maintains accurate and confidential beneficiary records and keeps track of all necessary figures and data related to services and respects confidentiality and the rights of the beneficiaries.
  • Takes partin market assessments, monitoring prices, registration and verification process of beneficiaries in/off camps throughout the project.
  • Provides regular and accurate reporting on livelihoods activities as required and requested by supervisors.
  • Reports all incidents in the field to the Field Coordinator promptly.
  • Works in close collaboration with other members of the team to ensure an integrated approach to meet the other basic needs of the affected population.
  • Supports the Field expert and the field engineer in identifying the locations needed for the project.
  • The Team leader is expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to the beneficiaries and to Welthungerhilfe’s’ Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, and Provision of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
  • The Team leader must ensure all interventions adhere to Welthungerhilfe’s’ Gender Policy, Do No Harm principles, and beneficiary accountability standards.
  • Behaving in mutual respect to other team members as part of work friendly environment.

Undertaking other project tasks as required.Field Tasks (60%):

  • Performs Shelter activities according to WHH’s guidelines, project workplans and field coordinators guidance.
  • Cooperate with the vendors to ensure effective and appropriate interventions and follow-up.
  • Reports all incidents in the field to the Field Coordinator/field engineer promptly.
  • Behaving in mutual respect to other team members as part of a work friendly environment.
  • Communicate effectively with beneficiaries and all stakeholders to provide information on program activities and their rights.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential beneficiary records and keeps track of all necessary figures and data related to services under Wash & Shelter and respects confidentiality and the rights of the beneficiaries
  • Works in close collaboration with other members of the team to ensure an integrated approach to meet the other basic needs of the affected population.
  • Follow-up with the vendors and beneficiaries during implementation.
  • Conduct technical visits to the targeted locations and follow up with their needs. Provides regular and accurate reporting on Wash and Shelter activities as required and requested by supervisors.
  • Works in close collaboration with other members of the team to ensure an integrated approach to meet the other basic needs of the affected population
  • Supports the Field expert and the field engineer in identifying suppliers, services and locations needed for the project.
  • Ensure that workers signing attendance sheet and well-document them.

Office Tasks (30%):

  • Supports the Field Coordinator and the field engineer in identifying suppliers, services and locations needed for the project.
  • Ensures that assigned activity is implemented successfully and in a timely manner.
  • Provides regular and accurate reporting on the activities as required and requested by supervisors.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports.

Other tasks (10%):

  • Takes a role in needs assessment, market assessments, price surveys, monitoring of the implementation, vendors selection, registration process of beneficiaries in/off camps throughout the project.
  • Undertaking other project tasks as required.

And the team leader should make sure about:

  • The Team leader is expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to the beneficiaries and to Welthungerhilfe’s’ Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, and Provision of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.

Your profile

    • Position open to Syrian nationals only
      Education: A university degree is required, preferably Civil engineer , Architict ,
      Work Experience: Minimum 2 years and above of professional experience in a similar position, specifically Shelter,Wash
      Skills/knowledge:
  • Experience in implementing shelter activities.
  • Experience in conducting needs assessments and KIIs.
  • Experience in conducting distribution and dealing with stakeholders/vendors.
  • Experience in using mobile data collection tools, and/or other smartphone applications.
  • Experience working in insecure and remote locations and reporting to remotely located management
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups;
  • Ability to summarize disparate information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Being able to travel.
  • Proven analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Good level of computer literacy.
    • Social Skills;
  • Ability to work in a team.
    • Language Skills: – Fluency in Arabic is required. * – Knowledge of English is advantageous.
    • Familiarity with Local Context: Candidates who have work experience and knowledge of the local context in Dana, Harim, A’zaz and/or Afrin are preferred.
