WARD CLERK

The jobholder will be responsible for the administrative function relating to the ward. They will participate in the reception of patients and relatives in the clinical area and act courteously to all visitors and other service users. The jobholder will work within set routines, policies and procedures/can assist with patient enquiries.

They will possess comprehensive understanding of the multidisciplinary professional working team and have good interpersonal skills.

The post is crucial in the co-ordination of costing information at ward level.

  • To ensure appropriate information is available on the ward for patients and visitors.
  • To deal with enquires from medical staff and the public concerning admission, discharge and transfer of patients.
  • Answer telephone and take messages as necessary and faxing as required.
  • Liaise with relatives and hospital staff/other departments.
  • Maintain direct communication with patients, appropriately dealing with any issues that may arise.
  • The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and health service business in accordance with Trust Confidentiality Policy and Data Protection Act.
