JustinBradley’s client, a Washington, D.C. based organization, is looking to add a Vice President, Finance/Administration & Chief Financial Officer to the executive team.

As part of the senior team driving the organization’s long-term agenda, the VP Finance/Administration & CFO directs overall strategic financial management, looking across the organization to anticipate, shape and drive revenue and expense objectives and trends. Working with senior management, the position facilitates fiscal strategy, planning, reporting and administration to the Governing Board on a consistent basis. Oversight of other key operational areas of the association requires strong executive and communication skills and a commitment to helping all departments work together to achieve the service mission. These areas include facilities management, insurance/risk management, investments and pension plan administration, enterprise support services, leases/contracts, IT systems, and human resources, as well as the financial aspects of an affiliated charitable foundation.

Highlighted Responsibilities:

With broad oversight of the financial function, information technology, and overall administration for the organization going forward, specific areas of responsibility include:

Finance:

  • Works closely with President and CEO as well as senior management team to develop financial strategies by anticipating trends and establishing functional objectives in line with strategic and organizational plans.
  • Drives the development and implementation of a broad range of financial planning and analysis issues.
  • Works with management team to develop operating budgets, guiding revenue and expense targets in line with organizational objectives and association management best practice.
  • Oversees financial and accounting system controls and standards and ensures accurate and timely financial and statistical reports for management and Board of Directors.
  • Manages the financial aspects of the affiliated charitable foundation which includes development of budgets and forecasts as well as preparation and presentation of financial reports to the foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Information Technology:

  • Determines the goals of IT within broad outlines provided by the executive management and provides necessary technical oversight and project coordination.
  • Manages technology systems, ensuring smooth operations, appropriate use within the organization, and maintenance contracts. Acts as liaison between 3rd party IT vendor and staff for informational updates and problem resolution.

Human Resources Administration:

  • Provides overall leadership and guidance to HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, retention, training, and leadership development, compensation and benefits, policies, and procedures.

Office and Facilities Administrations:

  • Responsible for overall office activities, including reception, mail, large purchasing requests and facilities.
  • Advises, negotiates, manages, and administers all substantive contracts into which the organization may enter.

A well-qualified candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • CPA and/or CAE highly desired.
  • 5-7 years of successful and progressively responsible experience as a financial manager, and minimum 1-3 years as an effective senior financial leader.
  • Nonprofit trade and/or member association experience with affiliated foundation strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office software; specifically, advanced Excel skills; Microsoft Dynamics GP experience a plus. Solid knowledge of accounting and other business-related software.
