We’re looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual who is self-motivated and experienced in managing multiple tasks with confidence. You’ll be a people person and be in your element when you’re dealing with a diverse range of people.

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, permanent contract. There will be some weekend working on a shared duty rota.

What it’s like to work here

You’ll report to the Property Operations Manager and will be supported by a team of experienced volunteer coordinators, you will also have support from the Property Leadership Team working across all four properties.

What you’ll be doing

  • You’ll be leading on all aspects of volunteering within the Sissinghurst portfolio, working closely with the Property Leadership Team and our Volunteer coordinators. You will manage the recruitment and selection process from the first enquiry to volunteering at our properties.
  • You’ll ensure consistency and professionalism across the volunteering community, making sure that inductions are comprehensive and regular training and updates are given throughout the year. You’ll also be a champion for our Everyone Welcome agenda, making sure that we encourage a diverse group of volunteers to our sites. You’ll manage the recruitment and selection process from the first enquiry to volunteering at our properties.
  • Great communication and engagement are important within the volunteer community so you’ll be visible and actively be involved in planning social occasions as well as involving volunteers in all aspects of our operation.
  • You’ll help build new community relationships working with the Programming role to identify new community engagement opportunities, this is also linked to recruitment and defining new volunteer roles
  • You’ll be part of a team supporting the Duty Management across any of the properties in the portfolio. Further Training and support are offered as part of your induction.
  • Being flexible in moving between properties will be essential as you’ll need to spend time at all properties within the portfolio.

Who we’re looking for

Our Volunteering & Community Officer is a key role within the portfolio supporting volunteers across all four properties open to visitors. You’ll have a sound working knowledge and experience of volunteering principles and practice and demonstrate a sound understanding of volunteering with enthusiasm for developing volunteering offers and programmes across multiple sites.

You’ll demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work with other’s people’s agendas and adapt their approach to work well together.

We’re looking for someone who has previous experience or transferrable skills working within volunteer communities and a proven track record of great engagement with new and existing volunteers.
