Devizes-based KFR is the award-winning reuse charity and social enterprise serving the whole of Wiltshire. We are expanding our Board of Trustees to improve our skills base and the advice we provide to the management team.

What will you be doing?

Our trustee with marcomms/social media skills has recently stepped down from the Board to focus on growing his company and we are therefore looking for a new trustee to ensure that the Board continues to have an appropriate range of skills.

As well as being a critical friend to the organisation, the role of the new trustee will be to provide advice and support to our general manager in the area of customer marketing, in particular direct communications, our web presence and social media. It should be noted that a significant proportion of our sales are made through our Facebook pages, supported by our presence on Instagram. As the organisation continues to grow, we need to think more deeply about how we develop our customer strategy in line with the changing shape of our customer audience and better integrate our communications mix.

KFR is the well-established and award-winning furniture and electricals reuse charity and social enterprise serving the whole of Wiltshire from its warehouse in Devizes. We collect donations from both private individuals and commercial organisations of pre-loved furniture, white goods and small electricals, diverting them from landfill. We make sure that they are fit for purpose, including refurbishing and guaranteeing white goods, and them sell them on, with customers in receipt of a means-tested benefit paying a discounted price or, in some circumstances, not paying at all. In 2021, we doubled the size of our warehouse to cope with increases in both supply and demand and we are currently negotiating to increase the size again. Exciting times!

This is a voluntary role and carries no remuneration. All trustees are directors of the limited company and also become members of the charity on appointment.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced marketing professional with a sound knowledge of customer strategy. In particular, they will have strong experience of direct customer communications from direct mail, through email to social media and be able to advise and support our management team in developing campaigns that deliver the right messages to both existing and prospective customers via the most appropriate channels.

All of our trustees are fully engaged in the company, with some also volunteering in the warehouse, so interpersonal skills are also important.

Ideally, they should also have trustee experience and understand what it means to be a trustee but, as this knowledge can be developed after appointment, it is not essential.

What difference will you make?

This is a key trustee role, making sure that KFR reaches both our existing and prospective customers with the right messages through the most appropriate channels. Through their contribution, the trustee is central to the development of the organisation as it reaches out to more customers to provide the help and support they need.
