Ambitious, well-supported, community-led organisation seeks new Treasurer to lead finance task group & support Artistic Director/Trustees to develop future-proof financial & governance planning mechanisms

What will you be doing?

TESP Board of Directors are jointly responsible for its governance and strategic direction and should have

  • A commitment to our vision and mission
  • Integrity, strategic vision and independent judgment
  • An understanding of the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a trustee
  • A pro-active attitude and willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties
  • An active interest in the arts, in socially engaged practice and wider issues which affect our practice
  • Good communication skills; tact, diplomacy, willingness to speak one’s mind and listen to others’ views

Specific Responsibilities Are To

  • Ensure the organisation applies resources exclusively in the pursuit of our vision, mission and aims
  • Contribute actively, give firm strategic direction, set policy, define targets, evaluate performance
  • Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
  • Ensure the financial stability of the organisation and the proper investment of funds
  • Attend a minimum of 3 meetings per year and read papers in advance of meetings
  • Attend sub-committee meetings as appropriate
  • Safeguard the good name and values of TESP
  • Declare any conflict of interest while carrying out duties
  • Participate in other tasks as they arise from time to time, such as fundraising and networking activities

The Board of Directors meets quarterly in Blackpool. This is a non-executive position and there is no financial recompense attached. Outside of attendance at meetings, it is important that regular contact is maintained with the Artistic Director, by e-mail or phone.

We are looking for someone with Financial experience to become a Treasurer for our community arts organisation.

What difference will you make?

Treasurer is an important role, especially as we engage with Arts Council England as a potential National Portfolio Organisation; we want to develop a financial plan that is dynamic and able to respond to the changing needs of life in the 2020s. This person will help us to keep on track financially and keep us viable, but even more significantly, will take an active role in formulating our vision for the future and ensuring we can continue to work with thousands of people each year to make positive changes in their lives.

We are also seeking other Board Members who may not have experience in Finance but who are keen to support a grass-roots organisation to take next steps in their development and positive impact on the local community.
